Got a question about the check in policy at DVC. I read somewhere that if you get there early, you may get a room quickly, but it may NOT be what you requested. (i.e, close to elevator, etc). But if you wait a while, your requested room will be ready.
Could anyone elaborate on this for me? Going in 30 days, just wanted to know, as we will stay at POP Cent for 2 nights, then move over to BWV for 5 nights, and we will get there pretty early.
THANKS!

If you get there early, if there are any rooms ready they may offer them to you. If you don't like what they offer, you can wait for another room that may or may not meet your requests (they can't guarantee your requests). In times of high occupancy, there may not be any rooms ready early or they may pre-assign all rooms.

Sounds like a bubba meisa to me. In Yiddish that means a "grandmother story," what we would call an "old wives' tale."

Check in policies actually seem to vary by the resort, the day of the week, and the mood of the CM who's checking you in. And as long as you haven't entered a room but are still standing at the check-in desk, you can always ask the characteristics of a room and, if you don't like them, ask if they'll have any other choices available now or later in the day.

Overall you're better off getting there early. If they don't have what you want, ask to wait for it.

I have stayed several times one or 2 nights before at a different resort.
I am an early riser so I leave the wife and kids in Bed and go check in.
Once at BCV , Once at BWI and numerous Old Key West and I have always gotten a room at 7am - 8am.
Didnt request anything at BCV got an EPcot (illuminations View).
Had Preferred View (before sep BW view cat) and got a view of the back of the slide.
OKW have always gotten my requests.
In fact only once in well over a dozen trips was my rrom not ready at checkin
1999 OKW arrived around Noon. went to DTD for Lunch got room about 2:30.

As you probably know if the room is not ready they will give you a business card with a number on it to call to find out if it is ready so you do not have to go back to the front desk. As far as rooms being ready early in the morning that depends on a lot of factors but you cetainly have a better chance then someone like me that shows up around 10 o'clock.

Warning: If you get there late, the probability of getting any of your requests diminishes quickly.

In January we didn't get to OKW until about 9:00 pm on a Sunday night for check-in. We had a 1-B/R reserved. There were only two units not yet assigned, both of them smoking. Yech.

Whoever checked in after us must have gotten the other smoking unit.
