Sorry if this has already been brought up...but does anyone know if Disney would reduce the value of the vacation if you told them you didn't want to take 2 people with you? If I were to win I don't think I'd really want to mess with taking the two extra people. :confused3

Airfare can vary greatly & I would only use 2 plane tickets and 2 park tickets-so I WOULD argue it:confused3

Maybe I wrote it weird. I would hope disney (ventura) would only issue the 1099 for what the trip actually cost (not the ARV). When I won they listed what the trip actually cost which was about $2000 less then the ARV. This saved me $600 in taxes.

I'm talking about arguing if the ARV is $5000 and they list $3625 on the 1099 and you say it was only $3200. That's where it gets sticky with the IRS and you have to provide print outs of what the hotel/airare would have cost since you don't get receipts.

Read my link on previous page
I would think the 1099 tax form would be for the trip booked and the $6k estimate is for 4 plane tickets cross country and best hotels and 4 theme tickets

I just heard a truck come down the street:woohoo:
Looked out the window and it was the garbage truck :sad1:
MAN!!!
Haven't seen a fed-ex truck since x-mas, so when I see one on my street I think I'll just die!!
Good Luck everyone. Hope we have more winners this week.
Me for one:)
:cutie:

I'm a little baffled by all the tax worry expressed in this post for people who it might not even be an issue for. However, in the interest of trying to help a little...

I work in the tax department of a company that awards trips to sales people. While not exactly the same as a sweepstakes, the 1099 rules are essentially the same. After the trip is finished, we figure out the total cost of traveling for each winner, and then 1099 them for that amount. These winners win a trip for them and a guest. If they don't take a guest, they only get 1099d for one person. If they cancel at the last minute, they're not 1099d at all. The actual airfare paid for their particular trip is what's included in the 1099. As a big company, we get pretty substantial discounts on airfare, so it's typically less expensive than what you'd see in the marketplace. Our flyers always give an approximate retail value when the trips are announced so that people are ready for the tax hit, but the actual cost of the trip is almost always cheaper than the advertised ARV.

I can only assume that Disney does things in a similar manner. They're going to 1099 you for the value of your particular trip that you actually take. I think the biggest variable/question mark is going to be the value they assign to the room, since there are so many discounts/packages/etc. that can change that.

DH gets packages for work from UPS 3-4x week. Never Fed Ex. I saw a Fed Ex this morning on our street and I almost ditched my car! Of course, it didn't go to our house but this Fed Ex Anxiety could do me in:sick:

Good Luck Everyone!!!

LOL! I love these stories of FedEx anxiety. I guess it if adds a little fun to our daily lives, why not?

I think it's like the Year of a Million Dreams when I walked around the parks thinking someone was going to tap me on the shoulder any minute to tell us we were staying in the castle that night. Didn't happen, but it sure was fun hoping.

jtown- thank you for the tax info. My husband and I are just kind of choosing to not think about that aspect of the prize right now.

As for where does the FedEx come from: it's from Ventura Associates in NY, NY.

For everyone else stressing out about this... please relax. Yes, I have asked myself if I would feel the same way if I hadn't won, and then I remind myself it's because I won that I found the DIS in the first place, so I wouldn't even be here if it weren't for OMDD.

I am going to give you a little unsolicited advise, too. I know that the rules have been analyzed on this board, and posted and reposted and analyzed a few more times, but the way I read the rules (again, before I joined DIS), I took it to mean you could only enter one time per day, per household, whatever method you chose. So I only entered online. I didn't have my husband text in an entry while I entered online. I didn't want to chance misinterpreting the rules, which is why I did it this way. I may be incorrect, but I do have to say, it worked for me, so my methodology can't have been all bad.

I have sent an email to my contact at Ventura to ask for clarification about the whole email/text/adults in the house thing. I'll let you know when I have an answer...

Good luck.

I'm betting Ventura will says any adult in the household can enter as long as they use their own e-mail address or cell - once a day.

I already e-mailed them on Jan 17th. My query: "I’m not sure I am sending this to the correct e-mail address, and apologize if it is not. I was hoping someone could clarify a rule in the One More Disney Day contest your company is administering. The rules specific 1 entry per person/cell/address per day. Does address refer to “household address” or “e-mail address”?"

Ventura's reply ""E-mail address is defined as “Address” in these rules. Therefore the limit is one entry per person per cell phone number per e-mail address. I hope this answers your question. Good luck! "

Perhaps since you have won, people will believe your answer. ;)

Please let us know if Ventura gives you a definitive answer. And just so's you know, just because you've won by only entering one time per household per day doesn't mean THAT'S why you won. It means they drew your name that day. I still maintain (until we hear officially otherwise) that "address" means e-mail. If they only wanted one entry per household it would've said "household".

That's mah story and I'm sticking to it (until Ventura or Disney clarify otherwise).

Where is our Dis winner this week?!! Come on Dis winner! It has to happen! I cant wait to see who it is!:)
As far as all this tax talk- i dont know about you all but if all i had to pay for a trip was $2000 in taxes, that is still way under what I have to save up to do tickets, dining plan, and plane tickets..I'll gladly take it!

First, I can't believe I spelled advice wrong.

Second, I didn't mean to infer that's WHY I won, but I that's HOW I won. I also stated that when I read the rules, I understood it to mean one thing, which I followed. It doesn't mean I understood the rules correctly, but I was doing what I thought was right. Enough of this. Forget my unsolicited advice, because I have an answer from Ventura...

"The word address in the official rules is defined as the email address/or cell #. All adults in a house can actually enter using separate email addresses or cell #s. A winner cannot win a second time via a new email or cell #."

Looks like you can enter online and by text once a day, and all the adults in your house can do that, with separate emails and cell #s.

So ignore what I said, except for the RELAX part.
