Just wondering if check in for GF and Poly are at the main lobby building lobby or do they have their own check in at the Villas?

VGF has a check in desk which is open daily from 7 am to 10 pm. The front desk at the main GF building is open 24/7.

PVB does not have it's own check-in, so you will need to go to the Great Ceremonial House (main building).

You could avoid going to the front desks by doing On-Line-Check-In.

The OP is from Canada and I don't believe that direct to room is an option for them.
Yes, it totally is! There is no distinction made between your country of residence and whether you are eligible for online checkin.

ETA: We are Canadian and have been doing direct-to-room since its inception :).

But if they need to pick up magic bands.

Since the inception of the room ready notifications, we have never once received one. We are always hounding the desk since it never comes so awkward and disappointing. What makes it even worse is that we are late trip planners so we usually hop resorts several times a trip. Our upcoming trip includes 4 resorts.

We find that we receive a notice at our expected arrival time telling us when the room is not ready. We always arrive before 11:00 am. I would say in all of the stays we have had at WDW using this new method 98% of the time we receive a notice by 2:00 pm that the room is ready. Only once did we not receive a notice. We have used this method at least 10-12 times if not more.

I think the difference here is that we are Canadian. They seem to have difficulty, texting or emailing us. We've tried both to no avail. :(

It's not because your Canadian, we always have problems, usually get the text after we have been in the room for an hour or two. I would just go to the front desk and ask if your room is ready.

I'm going to sound like a nut here, but checking in at the lobby has always been part of the fun for me! One of those vacation waypoints that declares "My vacation has begun!"
Check in at a Deluxe or DVC had always been a decent experience, but the long cattle-call line at Values and Moderates is never want to experience, again.

In our situation, we've never received room notification at all. We've probably had 20 or so reservations since buying DVC. I hate bothering the front desk but we are usually resort hopping with a car with no park tickets so we are always to have our room. This upcoming trip, I think we'll check out of our current resort and hang at the pool there for a bit before heading over to the new resort in the hopes that they have more time to prep our room.

I have been told that MDE app is updated with the room number even if no text or email is sent. Is it true? I visit from the UK so no text for me, but it would be nice on resort switch day to know when the room is ready.
