Check in for express passes at hotels?

What time can you check in to your Universal Hotel to get the express passes for that day? Do they have to be linked to your park tickets?

I believe its around 6am
They are not linked to park tickets, express passes are your room key

We checked in around 6:30 AM to get our keys last summer and had no problem. Were still one of the first in line for early entry.
