Today thanks to a big drop in April Southwest fares, I spent a lot of time juggling itineraries today by phone and online - canceling some, splitting some and then re-booking 5 of our 8 one-way tickets. I had to redo one itinerary a couple of times to figure out how the best order to apply my credits, finalized the bookings and called it a day.

Fast forward to just now when I went to update my confirmation numbers on my spreadsheet and I realized that I'd booked our return flight home backward - TO Orlando instead of FROM Orlando. :scared1:

Thank goodness it's Southwest AND I noticed it today while the fares are still low! I've done this very thing before and didn't know it until I got to the airport!

So please, save yourselves - learn from my past mistakes and near-mistakes! Double and triple check your itineraries before you click that all-important "purchase" button!

that's something I'd do! :rotfl:

I still don't have a return flight from MCO on June 2, because I refuse to pay $128 one way. Hopefully something will come soon because otherwise it will be a long walk home. :lmao:

I HAVE done this. I know exactly how it happened too. I have DING set up for Manchester NH, Orlando and Providence RI. I only added PVD maybe 2 months before this incident. MHT shows up before MCO but PVD shows up after on the DING screen. Well, I got a DING for PVD to MCO to PVD so I booked it. Unfortunately, I clicked the MCO to PVD to MCO link because it was first. UGH!!! In the end, I had to pay the full price to correct the problem (it was around $50pp each way to correct) because the DING had already passed by this time.

I'm glad you were able to correct your mistake and thank you for the warning!!

Glad you caught the mistake.

A friend of mine booked her and her husband's flights exactly opposite, going from Edmonton to Vancouver. Didn't notice until a day or two before the flight. That was NOT pretty for their checkbook....

Can I do this? Our tickets to MCO are 68$ right now. But home they are 168$! Can I book one way now, and then book our tickets home later? Is this wise? Is it a hassle? Can I book on two separate airlines. Sorry if these are silly questions....I've never booked airfare before!!

Yes, absolutely you can do it.

The negatives to it are...if you have to cancel the trip, you will face cancellation fees (if your airline does such a thing...Southwest does not) from both airlines. And you have to keep it straight in your mind which airline you're taking which way.

Other than that, it's not a problem. Back 10+ years ago it was a problem, and the pricing discouraged one-way trips, and security would look at you funny if you just had a one-way ticket. Nowadays it's easy and common.
