OK here is the scoop... I started a modified Atkins November 24th and have not "cheated" yet....now when I say I haven't "cheated" I suppose some might call it cheating as I have allowed myself a low carb/no carb chocolate something here of there or an occasional Klondike low carb "ice cream" bar...but did not partake in Thanksgiving festivities except for a piece of low carb pumpkin cheesecake that I made for the low carbers....so now on Saturday we are going to the biggest galla of the year, Greg's Christmas party, and I have decided that is going to be my cheat day for the rest of the year...(like my thinking). Come Sunday the 14th though, I am doing induction as it should be done!!! I ahve lost 8 pounds doing my "own" version of Atkins and can't wait to cheat....and then work on some serious weight loss. Don't know why I felt compelled to share this....but i guess I just need to see my actions and be true to them. Thanks for listening!!!

Hey Liz!

Just wanted to say congrats on the 8 pounds gone, (last I heard it was 7, you go girl!) I know you have been looking forward to Saturday for a while, so go, have a great time and enjoy the yummy food. Sunday is a new day!

That is just wonderful. I think planned "cheat days" can be a okay or even a good thing if you can commit to getting right back on program again.

I plan to have a cheat day during my WDW trip in June (yes a long way off). I'm doing South Beach and it allows for some flexibility in Phase II which I will be starting Monday and I can already taste those yummy grits and a waffle from the Crystal Palace buffet.

Just one word of warning - when your body is not used to eating lots of high-carb foods, it will rebel if you go crazy! Take it from me - I did it last week myself! Watch the carb intake a little bit - or you'll feel sick afterwards, and even have a carb "hangover" the next day! :earseek:

But, enjoy yourself! Have a great time!! And congratulations on your loss so far!! :wave:

I think cheat days are fine. But I think that they can be tempered with common sense. Don't just eat to cheat. Be selfish in how you select your cheat treats. If you select an item & it's not worth it, don't finish it. Taste everything you want, but only go back for something that is really special. I've used this technique at buffets, like Boma at AKL & it's worked quite well for me. I left feeling like I had a special eating experience, without going overboard.

Congrats on the weight loss and have a great time at the party!

I had long planned to have a cheat day on Thanksgiving. Then Thanksgiving got here and I suddenly realized that I no longer had any desire to cheat. Would I like to eat a cookie? Maybe, but no where near enough to send me back to induction. You may be surprised that the party will come and you won't have the desire to eat.

I've got some cheat days coming in WDW really soon. I don't binge much. My problem has always been picking. And I don't gain a lot of weight in Disney..I think it is all the walking and swimming.

I'm looking forward to dinner at Ohana among others!

Sunday started teh official Atkins induction. I did have a horrible carb hangover...all though some of that also may have been the "alchohol flu" too...but I had a wonderful time. Thanks for the advice on not finishing things I didn't really like. Although there was not much not to like!!! It was kind of funny how I found myself eating lots of meats and cheeses...even though that is such a main staple for me now. I did drink lots of Chocolate Martini's....low carb I'm sure....NOT and they were very yummy. Of course there were lots of dipping things with little pieces of bread and crackers and I did enjoy some of those things as well. But I have to say the thing that I seemed to miss the most was what I had for breakfast.....fresh fruit. I have a yummy orange and some strawberries. YUMMY! All in all it was a great time! I idd not gain anyweight on my little binge and have lost a pound since yesterday. 2 weeks of induction....and then we will see where we are at and evaluate if induction needs to continue!!! Thanks for your support!! This a a great idea!!!

Yay! You did good!::yes::

Not sure about those chocolate martinis, but the orange and strawberries are not too bad! I eat apples and strawberries all the time on Atkins! Maybe oranges are a little higher in sugar - I'm not sure...

These next couple of weeks will be a breeze for you! :wave2:

I'm glad you enjoyed your cheat day. Sounds like you didn't do too badly except for the chocolate martinis. Now your right back on plan---good for you!
