Any experience canceling a hotel after reserving through Cheaptickets.com. Looking to reserve room at Portofino @ Universal and can get room for $199 night with their current promo. Their site says free cancellation with no penalties up until 5 days before arrival. Portifinos cancelation policy is similar.

I have read horrible stories regarding airplane tickets. But can't seem to find cancellation experiences for hotels booked through Cheaptickets.com.

Did you call and ask them?

Call and ask them what? The OP knows the cancellation policy. They asked for personal accounts from the posters here.

OP, I am booked with them, but haven't cancelled so I can't help you out there. There are quite a few posters on the Universal boards that have used them. You might get an answer there.:)

I am sorry if I wasn't clear. I read the cancellation policies for both cheaptickets and Portofinio. However after reading horrific accounts regarding plane tickets on various sites I wanted to see if there were any bad experiences regarding hotel reservations.

The only caveat I see right now is that I have to pay for the entire room upfront. But, when the trip is done, at least I will not have a huge bill at the end of a trip.

I would like to keep my options open regarding APH rates. I am not an APH but will gladly buy one if the rates make it worth it.

I have looked at the past rate threads and think I have a decent rate based on what I have seen.

Thanks.

That does sound like a very good rate and I doubt you will do much better with an AP rate, and would only get the AP's if you plan to use them. I am paying more than that for the Royal Pacific in December and I still feel like I got a fairly decent price over rack rate.

I have booked and cancelled hotel rooms on cheaptickets so many times I lost count. I've never had any problems, so long as it is a free cancellation. Just make sure you book a reservation that can be cancelled. It takes a few days for the credit to hit your credit card account.

I've never had a problem with cheaptickets.com either. In fact, I got an excellent rate with them on a hotel in Los Angeles last March.

As the above person noted, just make sure you book a reservation clearly marked "Free Cancellation" and if you do cancel, be sure to cancel within the specified time frame. If you want to be double sure, take a screenshot when you make the reservation to prove the cancellation time.

Thank you very much!! The reservation very clearly says free cancelation and provides a date (5 days before arrival).. Unless an APH rate comes up, I think this rate is great.
