Oops! DH got his brand new HTC HD2 wet on vacation. We JUST signed a 2 year contract to get it for $199, and now we can't buy another one for the discounted price without adding another line at $30/month. :headache: (Lesson learned...we'll be purchasing insurance next time. :rolleyes1)

Suggestions for an inexpensive way to replace? Even eBay has these phones for $300+.

Look up cell phone repair and your city and give them a call. I have not tried them myself, but the cell phone repair shop I pass by has a sign that says to bring your water damaged phones to them.

I heard that putting the phone in a bag of dry rice for a few days works, but only if you haven't turned the phone on yet.

I would try the rice thing -- I have heard many success stories.

If that doesn't work, check ebay for a replacement.

Thank you!! I found one in our area that says it can repair water damage. I will check it out in the morning.

I second this. I've heard quite a few stories of success! Just bury the phone completely in a bowl of rice and leave it there for about a week, the rice will pull out all the moisture. Definately worth a try, if your DH can't be without a phone for that long then replace his and hopefully the rice thing will work and you can turn around and sell the phone to help with the replacement cost.

I think it's too late for the rice thing...it got wet a week ago. I took it to T-Mobile where they turned it on* and said, "too late now, but next time try throwing it in a bag of rice.":headache: (Live & Learn...)

*ETA: I mean, tried to turn it on!

Kitty litter works too. If it is a t-mobile phone you can check ebay, the t-mobile managers sell tons of phones on ebay. Many of them win tons of them like a couple of month and sell the ones they don't want on ebay. My ex did this, I had a new smart phone every couple months due to all the contests he (his store) would win.

If you buy a phone from ebay or craig's list, be sure the phone is not stolen or damaged. Your carrier can check the esn (serial #) on the phone to see if it has been reported lost or stolen.

Seller and buyer often actually meet in the phone store to exchange money for phone ~after~ it has been successfully activated.
