Planning a trip around Thanksgiving and hope to get to Disneyland while in Califorinia. My first stop will be Palm Springs, but I'm having a hard time figuring out the best way to to fly there from Baltimore. Southwest does not fly to Palm Springs and Delta is outrageously expensive (especially at Thanksgiving). I am trying to figure out the cheapest way to fly Southwest (I have a bunch of reward points) to a location close to Palm Springs, then change airlines and continue to Palm Springs.

Does anyone have experience with doing this? Any advise on the the best airport to fly Southwest into that will have the cheapest flight options into Palm Springs?

It's never a good idea to buy two separate tickets from two different airlines on the same day. If your first flight is delayed, you would be a no-show for the second flight.

It's okay to fly two different airlines on the same day if both flights are on the same ticket. However, Southwest does not participate in interline connections (except with AirTran, which Southwest owns and is phasing out).

You're also likely to find that a flight to PSP from a nearby airport (such as LAX) will be very expensive if it's not bought as part of a connection.

Try a connection entirely on Alaska Airlines from BWI to PSP.

Also try Kayak.com to see what your options are. Kayak searches multiple airlines for you.

If you want to fly Southwest, consider flying to ONT (Ontario, California) instead of PSP. Driving from ONT to Palm Springs would take around a hour.

You can just fly to Ontario, California on Southwest and drive to Palm Springs, it's a quick drive.
