My friend is looking for 3 day PH tickets for 5 Disney adults + 2 kids. She asked me about discounts, as I've had success in the past through Orbitz and UT.

I've checked prices, and I'm seeing UT as higher than Disney, even after adding tax to Disney prices. Can this be right? Is the "free" 4th day on the UT PH throwing things off?

Disney/Orbitz - 5 adults - 346.13
Disney/Orbitz - 2 kids - 325.89
UT - 5 adults - 364.95
UT - 2 kids - 345.95

The best I can see is getting the 3% clickthrough activity discount from Orbitz, which saves about $71.

Am I missing something better?

Did you use the Mousesaver's newsletter to get the UT ticket pricing? If no then there is a slightly lower rate with UT. Not much, $5 or so but it's something. The newsletter comes out on the 15th of each month and there is a link in there

And yes, the "free day" does throw things off.

1. Yes, it is. (So much for "free.")
The UT price for a 3-day PH should only be a maximum of $345.20 ($291.95 Base + $53.25 Hopper option) incl. tax.
But, by UT adding on the so-called "free" 4th day, the price rises to $364.95. (So, the cost of a "free day" is $19.75.)

2. The Mousesavers discount (which won't be much, if any, on a 3-day ticket.)
You'll note that on the UT site ticket price list it does not say that you are saving any money on a 3-day base ticket.
Buying fewer than 4 days on a WDW ticket is about the most expensive way to visit the parks, no matter from whom you purchase the tickets.

Try ticketmania.com. They have 3-day hoppers for $340.67/$320.44 (adult/child). This includes tax and free shipping via USPS.

Mapleleaftickets.com has them for $337.95/$317.95 with free pick up in Orlando or $6.95 shipping in the USA.tn

Cheapest way if you have kids, as long as the dates work for you, is to attend Disney Student Seminars (used to be called Homeschool Days). You don't have to be involved in Homeschooling at all - Probably why they changed the name. The next one is October 8, 2015.
3-day hoppers are $200.50 including tax. Anyone 17 and younger can buy these tickets, plus 1 adult per child (legal child - 17 and younger, not Disney child -under 10) can also get this rate. (So, you said "5 Disney adults", but if 1 of those Disney adults are younger than 18, the entire group can get their tickets for this price. 3x under-18 tickets, and 3x over 18 tickets. All the same price.)
