When we travel to DLR next week (yay!!! ) we will be driving down I-5 to entire way. I was wondering if anyone who has made the trip has any good tips on where to buy gas along the way that has good prices? In case anyone is wondering, we are starting at the top of Cali, so anywhere in the state that is off of I-5 would be great! Thanks!!!

Woo-Hoo only 10 days to go! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

When leaving DLR check the ARCO nearby to the parking lot entrance. I got a pretty good price there. Re-fuel long before you get to the grapevine, the gas just before and on the grapevine is outrageous!

Maybe this link will help...

orangecountygasprices.com

It has listings of gas stations in Orange County - not all are on I-5, though. (Gas is always more expensive, in my experience, close to the highway.)

Have fun and travel safe!

When driving down from San Jose, we usually stop in Buttonwillow, righ off of I-5. Also, if you take the Disneyland Dr. exit from the 5, there is an Arco on the right hand side at the corner of Ball Rd. I've found their prices surprisingly cheap (for gas prices). And as the PP stated, make sure to fill up before you get to the Grapevine.

I always stop in Frazier Park, as your heading up the Grapevine (from SF). I think its a Flying J??

Can't help with the northern part of the state.

Go to gasbuddy.com. That will tell you the most current price of gas anywhere. Not every station, but just some of the cheapest ones.

It is all expensive, just get gas and worry about hitting all the attractions at DLR!

I often stop at the Shell in City of Industry right off the I-5, it is always atleast 10 cents cheaper than most others but it is a little shady at night.

Just get gas in OC or in SFV, anywhere in between at night could be dicey if you don't know the area.

I find ARCO stations to be cheapest. If you use a debit card they charge you .45 but you save way more than that when filling up your tank.

Really...we don't even pay attention. LOL We just did the drive yesterday back North and I really couldn't tell you what we paid. We are just focused on getting to the parks and having fun! LOL

Just before the Grapevine the Flying J is usually pretty well priced.....I think it was pretty competitive yesterday. Around $3.33 or so....not sure though, like I said I wasn't paying attention. LOL

I need to find out what city it is in, but after you pass City of Commerce coming from North to South, when you are in the Industrial area (just past the Halloween Store, BBQ store and the strip malls on the right side) and just barely past the old Drive In Theater there is a ARCO directly off the freeway. I found them to have the very cheapest gas, its actually in Los Angeles County but just barely. They tend to have gas .13-.22 cents cheaper then what I normally pay. They are usually at least .05-.10 cents cheaper then the one outside DLR.

If you are leaving DLR heading north, get off the off ramp where you see the station on your left. When you get off the freeway do not take the first right head straight to the light, hang a right cross over the freeway and make a left into the station. The on ramp is back over the bridge.

It is a little easier getting in to the station heading to DLR but its so worth the cheap gas, I hit that station every trip if I can.

According to Alborts site the gas station I mentioned is in the top group at $3.25 as of today (:sad2: its $3.45 here), its 7667 E Slauson Ave & Gage Ave & I-5 South.

I like the mapquest gas thing-- you can go all along I5 and see where the cheapest gas prices are. We used this actually on our trip from Eugene to San Fran/ Hearst Castle/Santa Cruz and printed out the cheapest gas stations-- saved us a lot of money.

It's pretty high on the 5. Not sure of your itenerary, but IF you were to kick around Gilroy there is a Costco by Walmart. It's not worth the trip JUST for gas but if you were planning on doing other things in Gilroy I would gas up at Costco.

Thanks for these sites! I didn't even know anything like this existed. :woohoo: I don't know where I've been.

can i please ask, what is the grapevine? Thanks

I consider the grapevine, the section of the 5 freeway btwn roughly Frazier & Bakersfield. It is the mountainous section of the 5 that you pray does not get any accidents or snow b/c there's really no alternative route once you're in that section.
I maybe wrong, but that's how I always thought of it. :confused3

Just wanted to share-- it wasn't the mapquest thing we used it was google maps...If you go to google maps, then my maps and click on gas buddy, then put in your route, you can find all the cheapest gas stations along the route. You have to zoom in pretty good, but it works. It is much better than the mapquest. I found this just dinkin' around one day and of course never put it in my favorites-- I've been going crazy trying to figure out what I used last year.
