cheapest place for passprt photos?

Do you have a digital camera? If so just take them yourself and have them printed for a few cents.

We went to Walgreens. Had all 4 of our pics taken for less than 1 at the post office.

They used a digital camera, then printed them from the kiosk. They had a special program to ensure that the facial features matched up with the gov't requirements. Gov't requires that eyes are within a certain area and face is within a certain oval shape. You could probably do it yourself from their kiosk.

Get your applications in before the 13th. Prices are going up then.

If you are AAA premier members you get them for free at AAA.

If you are a Costco member......my Costco does pics, 1 set of 2 pics for $4.99 plus tax.

I used this free site to create a 4x6 inch print with six passport photos on it and ordered a copy from Shutterfly. Have not received it yet so we shall see.
You can also create wallet size photos of your kids for family.

Makes sure to follow the guidelines on the State Department site for photos.

You can upload a digital picture to this site (free) which will print out in the standard size.

I used this for my passport and had no issues.

I second dismomme - on the 13th the prices go up.

I noticed today that there was a $2 coupon for passport pictures on the envelope that they put the prints in I ordered (not passport related) at Walgreens. So it might be worth it to get one 4x6 print made (~.20) to get the $2 coupon. You could even ask at the counter if the coupon is on their envelopes before you make the print.

Take the photos yourself at home and print them at Walmart. Their self-print station has a setting for ID photos. Our post office had a cutting device just for IDs so I took the 4x6 in and let them do the rest. 30 cents for 4 photos.

We just went through the process of getting our kids' passports renewed as well as mine. Our post office is incredibly picky about the entire application process and wanted to reject the photos we had that were taken at a Kinko's. I would recommend having the post office take the photos. They are trained to accept the applications and have seen many, many applications, especially photos, that have been rejected and know what to do to make sure your photos (and application) are accepted. This isn't a big enough expense to risk the time aggravation that a rejected application would cause.

^^^ This.

Our rinky-dink little Town Hall has a full service passport application center. They accept passports whenever the Town Clerk's office is open, and take all the photos. To me it was not worth the extra time and hassle of potentially having photos done elsewhere, or by us, rejected.

The rules for the photos are very clearly explained on the department of state's website, and it doesn't take some kind of expert to follow them. If you follow them, there's no risk of the application being rejected.

They have a $2.00 coupon on their website; regular price was $8.99 - they also ensure the photo complies with government regulations. Printed two photos and within minutes I was done :cool1:

The post office people were commenting on the amount of shadow under chins and the amount of glare on glasses that can get your photos rejected. These issues are not addressed on the website and are quite subjective. The passport takers at the post office know of what they speak.

I would recommend having the post office take the photos.

Don't they charge $15 to take a passport photo?

Yes, you have to follow all the guidelines for photos if you have them done elsewhere, or if you take them yourself; but I agree with mrsklamc, it's not that difficult.

I'd certainly go with someplace cheaper than $15 per person.

Check the passport website to see what all local locations do passports. I got mine done at the library last year & they took the photo for free.

Yep.

And I had misremembered that DH's pport photos were something like 4.99 last year...went to Walgreens with nearly no extra time (I had to head up to Seattle to pick him up so we could both go to the post office to get DS's pport taken care of, the time for pport processing being done for the day was approaching, and I don't like being on the highway FROM Seattle at any time near rush hour)...and they were 8.99.

I nearly left and just had the PO do it. Because 4.99 to 15 plus taxes is one thing. 8.99 to 15 is very different. Grr.

But I had them done, the PO lady was fine (turns out the pport people only need ONE pic now, though actually I remember that from last year with hubby's pport as well...if only the pport paperwork would catch up!), got it all sent in. Taking the oath (that DS is DS and we've filled it all in correctly) was kinda fun. :)

Lucky!

Just got back from the post office (passport acceptance office). Our digital photos that were uploaded to epassport and then printed worked just fine. The postal worker verified the sizes with a little plastic card. A family ahead of us had photos that were taken at Walgreens rejected--not in exact measurements.

I agree that the do it yourself method is cheapest and easy to do. Just be sure to follow the guidelines as others have posted.
