We are trying to figure out what is the easiest and most reliable/cheapest way to get from Sanford Airport to the Contemporary. The flight we are coming in on only flys to this airport and when we return home for our return flight we are not flying back out of this airport we are actually flying out of MCO instead.

Hence, a dilemma on what we should do for transportation.

Our first thought was to rent a car at Sanford and keep it until we drive to the port a few days later for the DCL cruise but then we have read where turning in the cars at the port is not getting people to the cruise terminal as fast as they want to make their early boarding times.

So, then we started thinkning of other options---should we not rent a car from Sanford ---is there shuttles or another way that would be cheaper???

Or rent a car but turn it in at WDW instead and get a towncar service to the port----????

Or.....Just rent a car and keep it for the two days before the cruise---the 7 days of the cruise....pay for park and cruise at the port and then drive it back to WDW for our last day and turn it in there----we have a few days after the cruise at WDW too.

Help:confused3---dont' know what to do so confused---my head is spinning with adding everything up and I am really more interested in being able to control the time we get to the port but don't know about renting a car for that long of a period ---would it just be a wash???

Of course we want the best savings but we also dont want to get hung up cruise morning trying to return the car and miss the early boarding time we were given

I guess there's just too many options--if anyone has any suggestions or savings ideas we would love to know:rolleyes:--thanks

A car service or a taxi will each run you about $100 one way.

If you go on the website for the Sanford Airport, they have a whole page full of links to transportation companies that service the airport. As pp said, they all seem to average $100 one way, depending on the vehicle/ # of people.

Price a 3 legged trip. Sanford-WDW, WDW to Port and maybe Port to WDW.

Price renting a car for your entire trip. Pickup at Sanford drop off at MCO. Add gas, tolls and parking at the Port to your numbers.
I know you'll be needing the car for at least 7 days. The weekly rate for 2 weeks is likely to be your best rate. You might return the car while your at WDW and take DME to MCO if you're stay will exceed 14 days.

Does it really matter if you're among the first to board? Renting a car, and paying to park at the Port, is your best option. A car service would be a close second.

Playing with one way rentals and possible drop fees might save you some money but it sounds like being able to board early is a priority.

A car service from Sanford to WDW will run you about $100, one way. Then, about $200 r/t from WDW to port. So, right there, you've spent $300.
I would really think about a rental car. The drive from Sanford to WDW is easy. Then, either keep the car and park it at port, or return it to the rental company and take their shuttle to the ship and then reverse it upon arrival back in port.

I really like just parking the car, boarding the ship, and then disembarking and heading right to my car across the street. Yes, it may be a bit expensive, but it's worth it vs renting, returning, and then re-renting.

Thanks everyone;)

There will be 3 of us and yes getting to the port early is important. We really don't want to have to rent and drive our own car but if the savings warrants it then thats what we will do.

My only other concern is does anyone know how much we would have to spend $$$ if driving from Sanford Airport to WDW-Comtemp then driving from WDW-Contemp to the Port and then if parking while we cruise driving from Port back to WDW but this time to Coronado Springs Resort----I am wondering about how much we would have to spend in gas for these 3 legs and what the tolls would cost all 3 ways. So many things to consider:rolleyes:

We will need a car for 2 days before the cruise and then we have 2 days after the cruise so the total number of days we would have the car if we parked at port would be 9 days if we returned the car after the cruise at WDW---then we could use ME back to MCO where our flight home flys out of.

Also does anyone know the price of parking a rental for 7 days at the port?? Thanks again everyone!!:)

thanks for the replies----I really like the idea of parking a rental at the port too for convience but then again it would be nice to not have to drive pay for gas and tolls on top of it.

Does anyone know what would possibly be my cheapest route of doing a rental for maybe 9 nights?----we would probably need at least a mid size car for us and all the luggage.

I have a Budget rapid rez number and would prefer to use them but they seem kinda high for the time period of 9 days-----any other rentals that would be cheaper for this many days???

All the rental companies seem to be high lately. I would make a reservation now...then keep looking. If you see a better deal, book it and cancel the existing one. That's what I do.
