Hi all,

I decided not to brave the Best Buy crowd on Friday (people were lining up Wednesday night!) and therefore did not get the $150 miniDV camcorder I was eyeballing. I really only need it for playback, since our wedding footage (from 2 years ago) is still sitting in my closet and I'd really like to import and edit it. If it is a decent recorder that would be ok, as I could just take it anywhere and not care, but that is not a priority. At this point, it will be a glorified VCR, so I'm looking for something really cheap, like under $150.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it! thanks!

Oh there are plenty at around/less than $150, I know frys dotcom has a JVC for about $125 right now.

I would not be in a great rush as they are getting cheaper everyday.

Why don't you just borrow someone's camera to transfer your stuff? It seems like a huge waste of money to just buy a camera as a glorified VCR. Borrow one and save the money for a better camera. :)

Yes, that was the original plan, but the only person we know who has a miniDV camera is DH's cousin and he hasn't asked. DH would rather buy something than borrow it...for example, I've only recently been able to convince him to start renting certain video games rather than buy them because he passes them so quickly...

Yeah, my wife wouldn't wait for me to ask. Here's what you do - you call the cousin, borrow the camera, and transfer it. Or ask co-workers. Then you go and spend the money on something else for yourself. :)
