We are heading out to the chicago/waukegan area next week for my nieces boot camp graduation and I will be needing a store that has decent prices on essentials for a family like sandwich supplies, milk, juice, things of that nature. I googled it but have not heard of any of the stores in the area. Which one would we be able to stretch our money the furthest at?

Take a 15 minute ride from Waukegan, north on I-94 to Woodman's. It is by far the cheapest grocery store. Stay away from Jewel or Dominick's--super expensive. There is also a Super Walmart in Waukegan but Woodman's will be less expensive--depends how much you want to save/how much you need to buy.

Woodman's is right at I-94 and Highway 50, exit 344. I know the exit # because I live right there, lol!

Have a good trip!

I would check to see if there is an Aldi's in the area. Other than that, Super Walmart.

I'm in Elgin and found that Meijers seems to have the best prices consistantly, I'm not sure what's in the Waukegan area but if they is a Meijers near there it might be worth a look.

A second vote for Woodman's. Another bonus is no tax on food in Wisconsin. There isn't a Super Target up here. Woodman's will have everything you need. It is a massive store and their prices definitely beat the local stores.

The Target on Grand Avenue in Gurnee has some food. The Target in Vernon Hills has a large food section. But probably not worth the drive.

There are a lot of smaller, grocery stores in Waukegan that cater to the Hispanic population there. They seem to have good prices from what I see written on the signs, etc. on the store. But I have never been in them, so can't say personally.

If your niece can sponsor you in the commissary that will be your best bet Its right there by the Naval base. If not I second the Aldi on Rt.120.

There are no Meijers near Waukegan. There is a Super Walmart in Waukegan, that is your best bet. Woodman's is good, but not worth the trip while on a vacation.

Thank you all I really appreciate it! I made a list of stores and directions. We don't need a ton, but staples like sandwich stuff, crackers, and drinks can get really outrageous at some stores. We were thinking about heading into Wisconsin for the afternoon so I think we'll just shop while we are there!
