Hi!

Anyone have some Very Budget ideas about going from the NYC area (willing to drive in both cities) to the Houston area for the Final Four @ NRG Center - this is a trip my daughter and her Syracuse Fan girlfriends (4 total - all 22/23 yo- so not sure if renting a car is a possibility) want to go to the Final Four Basketball games - are flying into Austin or Beaumont possibilities? Are there Safe, clean places to to relatively inexpensive to stay near NRG ? Btw, everyone just graduated so flight on April 1st would be best late afternoon and they would leave on Sunday, April 3rd, even though they would miss the final game if Syracuse made to that point!) -

Thanks in Advance!!

Melissa

Sorry that I just now saw this. NRG is in the Medical Center area and there are a ton of nice mid level hotels. We generally get a great deal. Not sure about what effect the tourney will have on rooms though. Flying into Austin or even San Antonio could work.

Were they able to make it work?

Hi!
Thanks for your response!
No - They decided to go up to Syracuse instead ($30 bus ride) this weekend - although if they make it to the finals - who knows ;)

Kind of late to post. Our team went to the NIT final four (NYC), not the NCAA final four (Houston). We before we knew they were going (but we thought they would do well and that it was a strong possibility) used Southwest points -- fewer points if 14 days in advance to get trips out and book two different returns -- one after the semifinal and one after the final, as we didn't want to stay if our team wasn't playing. And yeah -- we made it all the way to the final, but not we lost in the final (Valparaiso University).

Southwest Points -- if you have a bunch are perfect for this, as you can cancel flights and not be out anything. If our team had lost early, we could have canceled everything and gotten all our point back. We canceled the flight after the semifinal and got the point back from that.

College basketball is so much fun in general, and even more so when your team is on a winning streak.
