I will have 5 points left in my UY for 2017. I want to book a Disney property pre-cruise. We're using DCL transfers to the port. I'm trying to decide if it would be cheaper trying to book a DVC unit at 7 months, purchasing one time points from Disney and combining my 5 points. Or should I look at cash rates at either Pop, Port Orleans, or AA? Staying the night at Orlando Hyatt looks to be around $250.

Aren't OKW studios the least expensive?

Since you didn't specify the month/deason for your cruise, can't do the calculations for you. Just take points required for the night you want less the 5 you have and multiply the result by $15. Then compare that to the cash required to book a value room (don't forget to add in the tax). My guess is that the DVC studio is going to be the least expensive.

If you need a transfer & DCL doesn't pick up at OKW, just use the points of a studio at a DVC resort that does a pick up for the comparison. Of course, you'll also have to factor in the likelihood of availability at the resort you choose.

Good luck!

Oops forgot about the date. Friday night October 6. I am assuming DCL transfers pick up at any Disney property but I should verify that. Assuming they do, I'm wondering if DVC cash rate at a value would be cheaper than buying the $15/pt one time use points.

DVC doesn't offer cash rates at the values, only at DVC resorts. Friday 10/6 is the Friday of Columbus Day weekend, which will be more than the nights in regular season. Rack rate for cash at Music in regular season is $129/night incl tax, but Columbus Day weekend is $171/night incl tax. Pop Century is more - $190

So if you can buy points for $15 each and have 5 to spend, you can book any studio that costs a total of 15 or 16 per night & come out even.

FWIW, I'd go with the DVC studio unless there was a good discount for cash at a value. I would expect the values to be packed over Columbus Day weekend since so many schools have off.

It looks like you can get the Waldof for $199 or either the Swan/Dolphin for $77 on Priceline Express deals plus tax and fees. Which means one could likely get the one for $77 a little cheaper bidding on Priceline. Worst case scenario you got something that didn't have direct access but was within a mile or so, well worth the cost of a taxi to save $75 or so compared to even a value at Disney. I'd go on Priceline and look at the prices for the WDW Disney Springs area. You'll see the prices and ratings. Then when you click on express deals, you'll see the options there but it won't tell you which hotel though you can often figure it out. Then once you make a decision there, I'd go to priceline and bid maybe $67 then you could increase your bid by add areas to the request. TIP - if you're bidding on 4 star and you add areas that don't have 4 star, you can effectively bid multiple times for the same area. The way I counted it, I could bid as much as 9 times by adding an area that didn't have a 4 star and bidding only 4 star (or above). Of course you're committed once you do so you don't want to do so unless you're willing to do a reservation you can't change.
