What is the cheapest and quickest offsite place to get ice? We will be camping at Disney June 4-15th, and we do not want to pay disney for their ice. Also, does the Hess station have ice?
Despite the cost at the machines at FW, I would think it would not be worth the price of gas to go offsite to get ice. If I were going to Publix to get groceries anyway, I would pick up some ice.
The Ft. Wilderness ice machines are $2. They have bags there for you to use. The bags seem to be about the size of the smaller ones you buy at gas stations or grocery stores. And I paid $1.69 for the bag I bought at my grocery store, so I'd say it's not worth the trouble to go off site for ice.
We always buy our ice from the trading post. It is the same price as that of the machines and comes pre-bagged from one of those ice places. We do this only because we have seen WAY too many dogs and gross little kids playing in the ice machines at FW comfort stations. Not to offend anybody with kids (I have a few myself), but I have seen kids playing in the dirt/cypress and then go fetch loose ice cubes out of the machine. Also, have seen people let their dogs drink out of the bottom trays!
I always run over to the Hess Station to get ice and snacks, as there prices are not jacked up, Ice was around a dollar for a 7 lb bag. The only hassle is that you have to go all the way around the TTC parking lots to get there and back.
I generally buy my ice at the trading post as it seems to last longer, for some reason the ice from the machine does not seem to be as frozen, otherwise we just buy it at WalMart when we go shopping.
