Cheaper than the HoJo?

Since you're going after November, yes you will need the '09 book.

I think someone must have posted while I was typing earlier; you can get Desert Inn for 59 bucks? Yowza!

Thanks for the info on the Chinook book!

What? That makes no sense. It's just like any retailer that has sale prices or online store that has codes available, you just have to hunt for them.

It's true that several different fan sites offer the 15% discount, AAA gets you 10%, AP holders get 20% and Ent. rate is 50% off rack rates. Anyone is entitled to these discounts if you have the right information. Without these codes, you will most likely pay rack rate. How is that deceptive?

You misunderstand. If yo go to their site, with no promo codes, you will get a discount, often its greater than AAA rate, its usually about 15 percent. So, this sites 15 percent discount isnt a discount at all. You dont need any information. You dont need a code, the "codes" they advertise are basically making you think you get a deal, but you dont. The entertainment book one is a deal though, the rest aren't really. Dell does the same thing, they offer 20 percent discounts when they change prices and if you look at the pricing history the discount saves no money as the price adjusts up and down depending on the price.

Anyone can go to hojos site and get a "discount". You get it if you phone too, you get it if you go to the desk in person. Its not a discount at all. It makes you think oh wow Im saving 90 dollars, I should book here. You're saving nothing, because no one pays rack, there is no rack in effect.

2 things

1) For the OP, does anyone have a link to that brett's disneyland lodging map? I thought that was very helpful in seeing not only locations of hotels/motels, but in comparison pricing as all the links were right there.

2)RE: Hojo's rack vs discount rate. When I checked back in May, I checked w/no code and disney view room was $159/night. When I used disboard code, I got it for $135.15/night. So, clearly I couldn't have gotten discount w/out use of a code. It never came up with discount when I didn't use a code. I think hojo's is easy to give these discounts if you call in, but its still a discount. For the person who never tries for a code, they would have paid the $159. Now, here recently, I just checked rates and its went up to $179/night! That is rack rate w/no codes. So, I don't know how you are getting same discount w/out use of codes. I must use a code to see the lower rate. Not to mention if a person lucks out and gets an ent date, then they really get a good discount! Not everyone gets that.

Why the "love affair" with HoJo's:

1. Lorealle: she's a guest services manager, and she pays special attention to guests from the DIS boards. She even joined the Ladies' Only Trip group for dinner. You'll find her posting here with information sometimes. If you call HoJo to book, what you do is call the hotel itself 714-776-6120, and ask for IN HOUSE reservations (don't let them shuttle you to the 1-800 national line). Ask if Lorealle is available, but they are all very helpful. She's like, instant friend. She'll chat with you about what you're looking for, wanting to do; she'll give you any advice or answer questions, whatever. You can e-mail her, too.

2. Ent rate: This is the big draw, of course. This is the nicest hotel you can get nearby that has a rate of $59 a night on a regular room, with the Ent book. For $74 a night you're in a deluxe room with a balcony facing Disneyland, with new beds, fridge and a microwave. The Ent rate should be available for some days in March, though probably not during the big spring breaks. If you're going in the first or second week, you can probably get it. Buy the book just before you go-- you'll pay less than full price. Figure you're saving at least $40 bucks a night, and it more than pays for itself on the first nights' stay.

3. Hotel itself: It's old, but nicely renovated, clean, friendly staff, and has beautiful grounds. It has inside corridors, unlike the motels that are across the street. Not that I'm paranoid about intruders or anything, but it's a quality thing for me.

If you can get the Ent rate, it's the nicest hotel that's quite nearby that you can get for so cheap. That's the bottom line for me.

BTW, here's the link for the Bret's DL lodging: http://www.geocities.com/ashpsyche/DisneylandLinkMap.html
Very handy!

Hope you can find what you want! Have fun planning! :thumbsup2

We've had different experiences.

I've had AAA for about 20 years now, and I know full well that sometimes, the rooms set aside for AAA holders are NOT the best deal. No matter what site I'm looking on, from Super8 to Westin, I check out their best available rates and compare them to AAA. The further out I book, the better the AAA rate is. If I'm booking close in, that AAA membership rate is cruddy.

I've never seen a discount just for going to HoJo's site. They have the guaranteed Best Available Rate, which means they aren't going to show you a huge price if they have a better one available. Kind of them, vs Westin/Starwood which will generally list the higher prices first unless you change the view to lower cost first.

I just did it for January 19-21 at HoJo.

Best available rates:

NK1 99.99/night
NQQ1 119/night
NQQ2 109/night
PNK1 99/night
NQQ3 104/night
NDD1 104/night

AAA:

NK1 89.10/night
NQQ1 107.10/night
NQQ2 98.10/night
PNK1 89.10/night
NQQ3 93.60/night
NDD1 93.60/night

AP:

NK1 79.20/night
NQQ1 95.20/night
NQQ2 87.20/night
PNK1 79.20/night
NQQ3 83.20/night
NDD1 83.20/night

And the discussion board shows that those dates have entertainment rates available, but I can't make it work online. But assuming you called, you can see how great those are, even you have an AP and/or AAA card, and especially compared to the Best Available. :)

I always forget to wrap up my thoughts. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who just blindly think that the AAA rate is the best they can do, and don't ever check to see what the regular rooms are priced at. Some people believe too strongly in the AAA discount. :) And some people really don't care about a discount; my brother won't work to get a discount. He doesn't need to, and if it's too much work for him, it's not worth it to him. So there will always be someone paying the highest rate they have. But that isn't a false discount, because someone IS going to be paying that.

But hey, I've stayed at Anabella and liked it. Didn't recommend it here b/c the OP wanted under 100, and when we stayed there I think it was right about at that rate.

I cannot recommend the Carousel, though!

Thanks Vossjemi and Bumber for doing the work for me. What the other poster was saying just wasn't adding up for me.

You may want to check out Getawaytoday.com for their rates for your dates. We managed to get the Hampton Inn Garden Grove for $103 a night, which includes free parking and a hot breakfast, as well as a $50 Chevron gas card (a special offer for the time period I booked). I realize this hotel is not walkable to DL and is slightly above your budgeted $100/night, but just wanted to let you know that GAT has some nice rates for many other hotels and, if you are lucky, some freebies/extras.

Maybe stay somewhere else.. Carousel Inn was great for us and was about $70 a night I think.

i wont ever stay at Carousel Inn i know that maybe a while ago the post was took down and i cant go on just that bad review but its just to scary and I have read other reviews before that one that told me never stay there.
If you do tho be careful (brang a bag with lock maybe)

dont forget camolot inn they were grate and room 404 had view of disneyland (403-409 dose i belive) my son loved going to sleep to the fireworks)

Lorealle is incredible. She is like one's personal travel planner. She was so helpful to me when I was making my reservation, she emailed with me, checked on my reservation for me and they also have their own dedicated website. After all her help and time, we ended up cancelling our reservation, we moved our trip to WDW (saved us $1500) but she emailed me and was so understanding. The woman is a jewel and there have been other employees of the Hojo through the years who have come around here on the dis, not to market but to help.

Its also the only hotel on Harbor that has grounds, something beyond a basic pool and the buildings have interior corridors.

Doesn't mean its perfect and I also love the Tropicana, but in all the love affair with the Hojo has been around the dis for years and with good reason.

Since I did not have a problem at Carousel, and you are mentioning a post that may or may not be on the board... I will stand by the Carousel. We had no problems with the room, safety etc. We did not really care about the free breakfast... all we wanted was a place to sleep! Our car was safe, our stuff was safe, we were safe. Even saw fireworks from the baseball stadium from our doorway!

Sorry you had a bad time or read about a bad time. We also really liked Hojo, but I did find some weird people hanging out in the game room one time we were there..... So, go figure....

The post Jade referred to very much existed. I don't think I am supposed to go into the details since referring to specifics of threads that are deleted is a no no. But like all hotels, the Carousel has its fans and critics. Some people didn't have the experience you had there which is always a shame.

amy and dan ty
the post was bad theres no dobut about it. weather or not it happened like it said id care.. the report review has made abelutely sure many here (MY family included) never ever stay there this was a poat about 2 or 3months ago.

so when ppl ask for places to stay i am automaticaly going to say to any one not there. by no means. I am one who would hate to stand by and let some one go there with out knowing the risks. I would fill awful if some one who had asked for recomendations did stay there and then opps they had the same type excpirnce or something.. how bad i would fill i could never live with my self.
so I will state my opinion any time asked

I tried this one and the rates were more than fairfield or Hojos. The regular room was 120 plus tax and the one you got for 100 was 229 plus tax/night. Maybe I was lookign at the wrong one, I know there are so many similar names. It was "desert inn and suites" on expedia.

I am very surprised they offered this price. We always stay there, and never pay that much. The most we payed was $109, and I think that was 4th of July weekend. We are going Halloween weekend, 4nights=$317.40, and that includes tax. Yes I booked in advance, I booked in March, but still, that is an excellant deal. Dessert Inn and Suites is the correct name. Is that a Spring break week maybe??
