Has anyone bought trip insurance other than that offered by DCL lately? What was the best deal you got on a 7 day cruise, and with whom? When should you buy? I thought I read something about having to buy it before final payment is made?

I got a quote from my travel agent and wasn't sure if it was a good deal. Someone on these boards suggested the following site:
InsureMyTrip.com
You can go there and compare several companies, and well as review their policies. I found the plan the travel agent was quoting was the same as offered directly from that particular company, and happened to be very competetive with the other companies. It helped me make a more informed decision.

You should also search this board by typing in "travel insurance" to get an idea which companies people found good, or bad.
Hope this helps!

Oh,
and I forgot to say with some companies, if you purchase the insurance within a certain number of days of booking your trip, some companies waive the pre-exisiting conditions exclusions. Just an extra item I remember from reading through the terms.

DoomBuggieDriver makes an important point. The key is that you have to get the insurance within DAYS (sometimes as few as 7) of your FIRST payment to have pre-existing conditions covered. (Important if you have someone with asthma, etc in the family).

We booked with Access America (same company DCL uses) but booked directly at their website. For us it cost $37 pp for our teens, and $42 pp for my husband and I compared to DCL price of $59/$99 pp (this is for a 7 day cruise).

Check out Lisa's thread "Trip Insurance Payoff" she just posted.
