We want to take a relaxing trip to a beach the first week of August. I need beach suggestions and any suggestions for where to look for cheap weekly rentals- houses or condos. We have a DD (16), DN (15), and a DD(2). Any suggestions? We live in Tennessee and are looking for someplace we could drive- I was thinking SC or FL but I'm open to other ideas.
Thanks!

What do you consider cheap? And how "nice" of a place are you looking for? I think Florida beaches are cheaper in the summer, maybe the Destin area?

Under $500

Looking for a place that is clean, has a pool and wifi.

Are there any websites? What about sky auctions?

I rented a house in St Augustine last summer through AirBNB.com. We were a block from the beach. Great location but no pool. I would look on that site.

500 for a week for a beach rental during peak season with a pool. I think you are out of luck. We usually rent on vrbo and there are thousands of choices but I have never seen one for that price.

VRBO is usually the best option, but not for 500/wk in the summer. The best deal we got this year was a condo across from the beach for 5 days and it was $790. We live in Alabama and drive to Gulf Shores or somewhere in Florida.

$500 for a week is less than $100/night - you might be out of luck unless you find something that is in a beach town, but you have to drive to the beach. Gulf Shores, AL is fairly inexpensive compared to other places, but for a place that is large enough for a family and has a pool, I would say you will be looking at close to $1000 for a week.

Check Hilton Head Resort on Hilton Head Island. But you will probably need to pay closer to $800-$900 a week. It is an older resort, but has been kept up nicely...has a couple pools and a boardwalk direct to the beach. Best beach bargain I know of.

$500 a week is not happening, especially in August. You really need to look fast; rentals for August at desirable locations are going to be hard to find at this late date. We have rented at the beach the past 2 summers (last year at OBX, this year in CA), and we signed our rental contracts in January.

Lord that is too cheap!
MAYBE Gulf Shores Al would have lower rates after Aug 15....most condos on the Gulf have lower rates in AUg....but under $100 a nite is not nice

We've stayed at Hilton Head Beach and Tennis resort a couple times for $600-700/week the end of August. It's right on the Atlantic, has the biggest pool on the island, and has a nice wide, clean beach. It's all individually owned condos, so the upkeep and decor varies widely. We've had great luck renting from owners on vrbo.

My sister has a family of 5 and stayed at Waikiki Village in Myrtle Beach in a 2 room efficiency. They have low prices and she liked it fine. She said it was outdated but clean. I have no first-hand knowledge of this. My mom said it's not somewhere she would want to stay, but Mom has a time share at the Sheraton Plantation Resort in MB and her tastes run more toward Westin quality.

Those are surprisingly low rates for Hilton Head!

Oh wow, I'n up in the Northeast and I can't imagine being able to find a beach rental so cheap.
I found one in late August in Cape May NJ for $2K but no pool :( and thought that was a good price LOL.

Cocoa Beach Florida---you can get a 2 br condo for about $1000 a week. I actually consider that a steal. Anything here in Virginia is going to be at least 2000/week.

Hilton Head has a reputation for being pricey, but we find it more affordable than a lot of other beach towns. We usually rent a villa and even at the height of tourist season, have never paid more than $1000 a week for a two or three bedroom at some nice resorts. Our favorite is the Palmetto Dunes Plantation area.

We live in MA and are going to the Cape (Cod) this summer. The prices are higher than Hilton Head for what you get. On Cape Cod a 2bedroom cottage with one bath and not many other amenities easily rents for $1200 and up. For that price on HH I can get two or three bedrooms, dishwasher, washer dryer, wifi and be within walking distance to the beach.
