I am looking for a reasonable (i know, might not happen) place to vacation with my friend and our daughters 9yrs old this summer. We stayed at ocean city nj last year and loved it, but want to try someplace new.

oops should have stated beach vacation. Currently looking at rehobeth beach and dewey beach? Any good/bad on these? tia!!!

Dewey is a party city...college age students...with two or three well known party bars.

Rehobeth is a nice small town. You might also consider Bethany and Lewes, also very small.

Ocean City, MD is very nice and where you would drive from any of the above beaches to go to the boardwalk.

I'm not sure Dewey is the best place for a kid on the weekends. Kind of a party place. We prefer Bethany or rehoboth.

I work in Rehoboth Beach. Check out the rehoboth website www.rehoboth.com. On there you will find hotels, restaurants, calendar of events, etc.
Definately you do not want to do Dewey if you have children. That is a crazy party town and lots of fighting.
There are nice hotels in Rehoboth, not sure what time of the year your looking to come because the rates can get high. Atlantic Sands is directly on the boardwalk and very nice. The Boarwalk Plaza is really nice but normally very expensive. There are also condos that you can rent by the week along the boardwalk.
I am guessing that you want to be right on the boardwalk? If not there are other hotels within walking distance of the beach. And there are also hotels a few miles out onto the highway, however if you are coming during the summer, I suggest staying in town where everything is walkable. The meters in town will suck you dry!!

Rye Beach in NH is a nice area. We found a rental on VRBO that was reasonable last year.

Thank you :) We are looking to come in July. I was hoping to stay on the boardwalk or save a little money and find one within a block walking distance. tia!!

I live in Maryland and I have never found DE, NJ, and certainly not OC, Md to be reasonable. I think for what you get, the cost is crazy. We've been traveling to Nags Head, NC for a number of years now as it is a nicer, quieter area and for half the cost we can rent a whole house rather than be in a cramped hotel or efficiency. I realize not everyone wants to drive 6 hrs to vacation but for us it is perfect.

We also love the beaches in NC and find them very reasonable! Road trip!

Yes, my blog linked below is sadly neglected but there is a post about our trip to Kure Beach last summer and we loved it!

I don't know if you're looking for a quiet beach town or more hustle and bustle, but Chincoteague Island, VA, is a nice vacation spot. There's no boardwalk; the beach is a national seashore, I think, but it's a pretty family-oriented town. We've gone there three different times and rented a house for a week.

Cape May NJ is pretty awesome. The beaches are great and there are arcades, mini-golf & movies to keep the kids occupied during non-beach hours. There are also some good restaurants & shopping in the outdoor mall. I used capemaytimes.com to find our place last year, if you do your research you can find some good deals.
