I haven't been paying attention to school supply ads since I don't need to buy any. My job is collecting supplies to send to children and I would like to contribute. What places are having good sales? Here is the list of approved items.

* Blunt-end scissors
* 12-inch Rulers with metric markings.
* Pens and pencils
* Small pencil sharpeners
* Colored pencil sets
* Binders
* Notebook paper
* Composition books
* Folders with inside pockets
* Zippered pencil bags
* Erasers

Any help is appreciated!

Last weekend Walmart had 70 count spiral notebooks (college rule and wide rule) for 6 cents a piece! I thought they had made a mistake on the sign. Filler paper was 15 cents. Can't remember how many sheets it was. My son doesn't even start kindergarten for a whole year and I bought a bunch! Just too good to pass up!

staples is having some good back to school sales this week, I don't remember what specifically, though.

Don't buy too much though.....I once had a stockpile from college days and it yellowed before my daughter used it. For the lower grades, I found that teachers will use spirals or the old tried and true black and white marble books until like 2nd grade.

Those marbled boks are $1.35 for 2 until tomorrow at Staples.

Walmart also had elmers glue (bottles) and 2 pack glue sticks for $.20 each. the glue sticks also had a free squeeze paint brush in each. I got like 2 of each color.

This week has been Target, Staples and Walgreens.

Target has Crayola Markers- 10 pack for $.98/pack
Crayola Crayons-24 pack for $.25/pack
10 pack of 1 subject notebooks for $1

Walgreens has erasers for $.10 for a pack of the pencil topper ones or 2 large
Rulers for $.10/each
2 10 pack of pens for $1
24 pack of pencils for $.79
small stapler for $.99
paper clips for $.10
compostion notebooks can't remember price
pencil sharpener I believe $.59 or $.79

Staples has the 2 pocket folders for $.05/each
reems of paper for $.25
book covers for $.49/each

One of them had scissors for I believe $.79...want to say Target
Target also had glue cheap
I think the sales end tomorrow though.

Office Max or Office Depot has Crayola markers 10pack classic and 12 count colored pencils for .39 a package.

Oh yeah, that's office depot. I'm planning on going afterwork to stock up.

I couldn't remember which one it was they are right next to each other here....so confusing!! Thanks for clearing that up!!!

I like checking out Big Lots, too--usually no advertised sales, but they have good prices on a lot of items.

If you bring the other adds you can price match at Office Depot, schools get 5% back and with Advantage program, You get 10% back at the end of the quarter.

They are .50 each at Target (sale ends tonight) and they have yellow, red, green, blue and traditional black.

24 count crayons are .20 a box

2 pack elmers glue sticks and small bottles .20

Rulers .20

10 pack of pencils .20

Fiskars scissors (blunt and sharp) 1.00

Plastic Folders (not cardboard ones) .50

Spiral notebooks 1.00 for a pack of 10

There was a lot more at great prices and they were out of a lot of things, but you could always get a rain check. I spent around $5.00 and got tons of stuff.

Just an idea, I've never shopped for school supplies once. The PTA puts together and shrink wraps the required materials. They are sitting on my son's desk when he walks into school on the first day. It usually costs $20. It may not be the cheapest by the prices at the store but, it saves me gas, time and headache. All worth some dollar value. Also, it supports the PTA. If your PTA does not do something like this, I urge you to all to speak to your fundraising rep. at the PTA. It makes things so much easier for the parents and teachers who otherwise might be dealing with more kids who's parents are slackers or idiots or unlucky folks who don't shop at all or corretly for the required items. I think $20 is a great price for the long list of things required for the 2nd grade list I received back in May.

After seeing all the good prices listed here from the store, I went to Walmart and get some supplies to donate to the Head Start program.

herc.

What about the Dollar stores?

My kids are in private school and thankfully they include all supplies with tuition!

Walmart had marked their Crayola markers (10 pk) and colored pencils (12 pk) to $.39 each today.

Lori P. :)

:guilty: I did not see that at walmart I paid $1 for the big fat classic ones. I did not see the color pencils either. Maybe they have different sales at each one?? Of course it was soooo crowded. Our school does something similar by selling the school supplies prepackaged. However, it comes from a company and is not $20 dollars more like 30-35 and I can do it cheaper. After fighting those crowds today though it may be worth it next year!
