cheap rain ponchos?

On June 29th we went to Walmart to get ponchos. They were on the shelf and when we tried to checkout the computer said "sale not authorized." A manager came over and tried to figure it out then informed us they were recalled and would be removed from the shelf. I am not sure if other stores still have them on the shelf or not.

I prefer those cheap thin ones. Once the rain stop, no second thoughts about throwing them in the nearest trash can. And no need to carry around a drippy poncho the rest of the day.

This is what we're doing this year.

Thanks for the info, OP. We bought several of the Wal-mart (I think they were Ozark Trail brand?) 88 cent ponchos for our trip last year. I loved that I could just throw them away after the rain. I've been wondering why I couldn't find them this year. I just thought they were always sold out. (the racks they hung on have been hanging empty for months, with the 88 cent price tag still on it) Now I can stop checking the camping aisle. :thumbsup2

This is the advice I give. Get some dri-tec shirts or equivalent, and rapid drying shorts like the Sahara line from REI.

Then when the rain starts, flip god the bird knowing that 15 minutes after the rain stops you"ll be dry as a flour mill.

Exactly this! We do it on long hikes in the mountains so we can take dips in the many streams and creeks.

Dollar general has the $1 & $5 kind. I bought the dollar ones with no plan of using them again. I bought 2 per person just in case it rains twice. We also bring a large trash bag for the stroller or a park bench.

Target in the camping section. They're less than a dollar, come in convenient, small packages, AND come in bright colors so you can easily find your party in the rain!

These are the ones I've bought before.

However, if you decide to go back to Disney sometime, I would buy the ones from there. They're a bit bigger (and sturdier) but I still have mine from four years ago and they roll pretty small.

I got two each for my family of four at Rite Aid, if they have those in your state, but they look to be the exact same as the above poster included that they got from CVS. Must be a pharmacy thing. Ours were more like $1.50 compared to Walmart's 89-cent. Still pretty cheap, although they do tear easily. Great for using and disposing in a recycle bin.

The ones I bought from Dollar Tree a few months ago were very skimpy compared to the ones I had gotten there in the past. I won't buy them there again.

Our dollar store ponchos were so awful! They had no plastic for arms, it was like a sleeveless shirt. And no we are not giants! They were just a sad little front and back, half hood. Never again! We were in a downpour and had to buy the disney ones anyhow. Since we want to keep reusing them of course, I will being a trash bag to put them in under our stroller next fall
