I'm looking for a very basic at home printer and don't need it to scan/fax. Anyone know of a cheap printer that I can get cheap ink refills available through Walmart, Office Depot or Amazon prime. Or do those cheap generic ink refills work with any printer?

Also check for inexpensive B&W laser home printers. That is what we now have and find they work better for infrequent printing. Liquid ink cartridges tend to clog if not regularly used. Laser printers use a dry ink powder. Have tried the generic liquid ink refills and they were terrible. If you don't print daily/weekly, I would not recommend those.

I tend to stick to Epson Printers because their ink is so cheap. You can buy generic ink generally off eBay for a couple dollars per cartridge.

I've been told brother printers are the best for cheap devices and inks.

I bought a very inexpensive Canon printer on amazon over a year ago for dc to use for school. It was $39. I think ink cartridges are $18-20. I’ve been very happy with it.

If you don't need to color print, you can find B&W printers for less. If you need color printing, make sure each color ink is a separate cartridge to keep costs down when replacing them.

No such thing. My HP printer cartridges were expensive but lasted a long time. My Brother printer cartridges are half the price and last half the time. You can't win.

IF B and W is all you need...
Staples sells a basic Brother or Dell laser printer for 60.00 or less on sale -- sometimes Dell will have the same price. Make sure you get a WIFI one so you can hook into your WIFI (very easy) and print from any device on your WIFI. The cartridges (other names) on EBAY and Amazon can be had for under 10.00. They will never dry out and the heads will never clog. This printer does use a drum which may need to be replaced at some point but these are also cheap... if you do not print a lot it should not matter as you will replace the printer before the drum as they last thousands of pages. If you are skeptical about after market HP makes some under 200 BW laser printers on sale 150 or less the genuine HP cartridges sell for around 65 less on sale but will also last thousands of pages with no issues and do not have a drum but these are mostly all in one that have a scanner as well.

I got an HP from best buy black friday deal that was 19.99 then ibotta gave me 10.00 for the purchase. plus it came with 2 months free instant ink, then there was a free 2 month up to 300 pages. so for 9.99 I have a printer, copier, scanner and 4 months free printing up to 300 pages a month. I want to say I've seen other deals recently that are similar but 10 more.

We have an HP and we have the instant ink subscription too. We pay $4 a month and I think we get either 30 or 50 sheets to print a month (we don't use that many). We get free cartridges shipped out and we return spent ones.

We use costco. I think its 7.00 for our hp there is diffrent prices it's a refill

For ink charge, i’d endorse a printer that doesn’t take cartridges, but has ink tanks for every color. the epson eco tank printer has, of path, ink tanks. those are lots more value effective than the ones overpriced cartridges they promote. these don’t come cheap, though, the cheapest one on epson’s web site is $500. if you do a whole lot of printing, though, it is able to just be well worth the upfront fee for you.

I used HP for years. Switched to Canon last fall. The Canon goes through ink significantly faster than the HP did. It's also a lot less intuitive - I have to keep googling how to do things (set the default to print one-sided instead of 2-sided, etc.). When this dies I'm going back to HP.

I was looking right before all this craziness happened & I started noticing a really weird trend where college priced printers seemed to require owner to sign onto some kind of ink subscription. When I read reviews I saw some people complained if they disengaged from the service the co will turn off the printer, Even if they actually had ink left. Are there any inexpensive printers that are not that? The more I tried to research it the more it seemed like they wanted me to buy the printer and then figure out I was handcuffed to it.

That is why I decided to try a different brand when my HP printer died but I hate my new one (see above).

HP printer with HP Insta-Ink. As a teacher, this has been a dream! No need to run to the store for ink, it automatically ships to you. My printer cost $80 (has wireless and can scan) and I'm on the $4.99mo ink plan. No regrets.

If you use the instant ink they will turn off the cartridges the second you stop service. You can buy Hp cartridges and use those.
