Cheap prescription glasses?

Another vote for Zenni. We have had good luck with them. My DD loves them because she can get several pairs in fun colors (like hot pink) and it still doesn't cost what 1 pair in a retail store would cost. My DH likes his and he is extremely pick about things like glasses being just right..........

As far as cheap her pink pair were $9.95!!!!

I found there was not a whole lot on the site for boys, but there are some nice ones for me!!LOL

To bad its DS who needs them.

I used 39dollarglasses.com with no problems. The funny thing is I get more compliments on my cheap glasses then I ever did on my $400 pair!

They also sell prescription sunglasses. I used them instead of Zenni as I had heard it can take awhile to receive (I got mine in less than a week) and because I get cash back through Sunshine for them.

I've been seeing commercials for Walmart Optical. They're advertising glasses for $38.00. I don't wear glasses, but that seems like a pretty good price to me. :thumbsup2

We've used both Zenni and 39Dollarglasses.com

Been happy with both but Zenni does take quite a while longer to receive, because from what I understand the orders are filled in China and shipped to US.
39Dollarglasses.com is based in NY I believe.

Just have to say your little Min Pin puppy in your signature is ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE!!!! :thumbsup2
We've had many Min Pins over the last 20 years, love them! Unfortunately far too many end up in rescues because of their high energy level, but they are such smart dogs! Our current one is a rescue dog.

Ya we bought them for my son and thats just for the frames....the lenses are EXPENSIVE... at least here. For the scratch coating they wanted 32 each lense.

Thank you!! :goodvibes I think so too (but I'm a bit biased ;) ). It's funny as the only people who ever know she's a Min Pin are people that have had one themselves, everyone else always calls her a Chihuahua. I was watching some reality show (I can't remember which one, that's when you know you watch too many ) where they went to a shelter and it seemed like the entire place was filled with Min Pin's! It was so sad :sad1:. Mine is so lucky as she stays with my Dad (who's retired) and they go for long walks every day and play in the backyard (oh, and they take naps together too, so cute :) ) and when I get off work and get her I take her for another long walk and play with her all night inside. There is no such thing as wearing her out and she has the funniest personality. I just love her to pieces! :lovestruc

Ok, enough of me being OT :rotfl:. Thank you for the compliment!! :goodvibes

Another plug for Zenni. Ordered glasses on New Year's from my eye doctor. Had to send them back 3 times! Just picked them up again today and I can finally see out of them. :headache:

Received my Zenni glasses middle of Jan and they were perfect! Good thing since the ones I used my insurance benefits were completely useless and I had the Zenni glasses to wear. I'm not going to bother with the office next time!

Has anyone order bifocal lenses from Zenni?
My DD had cataract surgery and she needs bifocals. The last pair of glasses that we got from the Ped Ophth office cost us over $400. :scared1: Our optical insurance is horrible and her prescription changes at least twice a year.

I think Costco has great prices on quality frames. I bought prescription glasses with scratch & glare gaurd and photo gray lenses for about $250. Going back to get another pair before my Disney trip as a back up.:hippie:

My DH's are bifocals and in his words he "is quite pleased with them" and for a non gushing engineer that is high praise!

I got a pair from Sam's a couple years ago that was ok, but about $150ish. I just ordered from www.zennioptical.com and got 3 pairs, 2 with anti-glare, for $40 with shipping. They came in less than 2 weeks. I'm pleased with 2 of the 3 pairs. The 3rd I didn't read carefully enough and they're bigger, not very feminine. Luckily, that's the pair I didn't get anti-glare on.

Both of these companies have all of their product made in China. They might have an office in the U.S. to recieve orders, that's it. Remember the cadmium in the jewellry issue? I don't believe that I'd want to wear one of their super-cheap frames. A larger issue is one of economies and sustainability. Has anyone here noticed how things aren't made in the U.S. anymore? That is a leading reason we are in the current situation. We all like to find good deals, but at what larger expense? As long as we keep buying cheap, disposable junk from China, their economy will grow, and ours will shrink. Please thing again when it's time for your next eyewear purchase, and consider a company who has at least the lenses made in the U.S. While U.S. made frames are harder to come by, there are some options, such as Randolph Engineering, and believe it or not, all Oakley frames are made in the U.S. too (except for the models with electronics in them). One source for U.S. made lenses, and the above-mentioned frames is heavyglare.com. They sell their products at a fair price, far under what most doctors charge, and probably have a lower markup than 39dollar and Zenni (the frames they use cost pennies, and when using essentially slave labor for the lenses, they're 2-3 dollars a pair). You will have a product that is made well, will last longer (have you seen how long the finish lasts on those cheap frames?), and is supported by a shop that will work with you to resolve any problems that might arise. Please remember to buy American when you can, and at least not Chinese when there is another option. China is NOT our friend.

Thanks for the advice!

I think that I'm going to try and order her a pair today. The problem that I'm having is that every frame that I pick out on Zenni's site says that it's too small to put bifocal lenses in. I've got to measure her current glasses and see exactly how large the lens is so I can get an idea as to the sizes that I'm looking at online.

I don't want her to look like Harry Caray!;)

I went to the site that you listed. I found one of the cheapest pair of Oakley frames ($175.00) with the cheapest lenses ($89.99 Polycarb + $40.00 for bifocals) and the total came to $304.99! This was with nothing extra (no scratch coat, tinting, anti-glare...) :scared1:

Now compare that to the price of the same thing at any local optical shop. Keep in mind that comparing an American Made Oakley frame to a $3 Chinese frame is like comparing a plastic digital watch that comes in a Happy Meal to a Citizen, or a Seiko (Oakley actually has a higher standard of manufacture than Seiko or Citizen). How long do you plan on keeping a pair of eyeglasses for? Over two years, that's less than $0.50 a day. Not bad especially when you see how soon those Chinese frames peel (about 6 months or so). Also, how much is an American job worth? While we all like $59 DVD players, and $15 tennis shoes, when does it stop? When it's YOUR job getting outsourced overseas?

In the case of my DD, it would be about 6 months. With all of her other expenses that are not covered by insurance, $600+ a year for glasses is hard.
