Cheap partial "renewal" of DDE

Last month, I lost my DDE card while at WDW. It was due to expire in February. Knowing that we'd be returning for a few days in August, I called for a replacement card. I was NOT happy to hear that it would cost $10, but I figured it would be worth it. Too bad that will be our last trip until March '06, but I knew we'd save more than $10 using it in August, so I said OK.

I just got my DDE letter, and was THRILLED to see that my new card will expire in June '06! So that $10 fee not only replaced my card but in effect partially renewed it, covering the time period of my next two planned trips. Woo hoo!

We "lost" our letter during our May visit. Surprisingly, no one in guest services at the parks or our resort (AKL) was able to help us. Just as we were ready to make a call to the DDE telephone number and have to go through all that hoopla, dh decided to check with Marrakesh (where we'd eaten the day before). Lo and behold, he had left it there!! So... some words of caution: hold onto those letters/cards!!

Well, it turns out that the letter was wrong, which really burns my rear because after I ordered the replacement card, I remembered that DH still had his card. I was all set to cancel the replacement and then the letter came, telling me incorrectly that the new card would be good through June 2006.

When the card finally arrived, it had my original expiration date of Feb 2006. I just got off the phone with DDE, explaining how I was going to cancel the replacement but the letter made me change my mind, and all they could tell me was that the letter was an automatically generated form letter, it was wrong, and there was nothing they could do about it. Grrr! So moral of the story, again, is do NOT lose that card -- and if you do, and your spouse still has their card, don't bother getting a $10 replacement for yours!
