Well, since internet service is apparently not free at the beginning of 2008. Does anybody have any other cheap alternatives. I leave tomorrow and don't won't to pay $10 a day. I can get by with my iphone but I wanted to do a live report and don't even want to attempt typing a whole report on that cumbersome keyboard.

Do you have a dial-up option from your internet provider? Most dial-ups have a local number for WDW, and local calls are free.

I've used Netzero dialup for years at WDW - there are a number of local connection numbers just make sure that ANY dialup number is truly a local call - or you'll pay long distance surcharges. There is a page in the room phone directory showing the local prefixes. Most Orlando exchanges are local - many of the Kissimmee numbers are long distance. Reedy Creek and Lake Buena Vista numbers should be OK. You will need to use the Area Code even for local numbers from WDW resorts.

Another low-cost service is BudgetDialup.com - it's a pre-paid internet service. It also has good local access for WDW, but also has a 1-800 number. It has also worked well for me.

Good luck - hopefully they'll get on the same page with the "FREE" access for DVC members soon.

I have Verizon DSL, I don't think they have a dial up option but I'll have to call and see.

Will you have a car and by any chance will you be going over to the outlet mall?

If so, I believe the new Panera Bread over near there has free wireless.

You could create your report ahead of time, EG Notepad, then when you get to Panera, get on line and on the DIS, create a thread and just copy/paste your report.

I don't know of any free hot spots within WDW. Maybe someone else knows of one.

Wide World of Sports has free wifi in spots around the complex. Some have reported being able to access the net from the parking lot as well.

Other known wifi spots I am aware of are...

Best Western Lake Buena Vista Resort Hotel - Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

Courtyard Marriott Orlando Lake Buena Vista at Vista Centre - Lake Buena Vista, FL 32836

Grosvenor Resort - Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

Good luck with the "report"

It's my understanding that they're not going to start the free internet until Spring 2008. (They left out that little detail at the member meeting. Apparently they just said "beginning in 2008". I guess we all just assumed that meant January since January starts 2008.)

My sister and brother stayed at Vistana, so I just used their free high speed. Disney acted like I was crazy for thinking they might provide free high speed connection. (It's the only place I've stayed in the past year that doesn't, including several other condos and multiple hotels.)

Im using dial up with a Reedy Creek number and double checked with the front desk and the call is free.

I have peoplepc for use while at DVC, its $10 a month, but I hope to cancel once the free internet kicks in. We stay DVC about 35 days a year so $350 for DVC HSIA vs. $120 per year for peoplepc.

Even when it does become free, I don't think it's going to be wireless. I believe it'll still be Ethernet cable, the same as today.

Yes, Caskbill, you're right-Jim Lewis didn't say free wireless. The only place with free wireless is HHI resort, and that's not in your room-you have to go "all the way" to Big Murgie's Den or the pool area. Still a great plus there.

VB has free wireless too. It wouldn't surprise me if all the DVC resorts end up with free wireless in common areas. In fact, unless a resort is already wired for Internet, it would be prohibitively more expensive to run wiring than to set up wireless. So I wouldn't expect one or the other until it happens.
