Cheap hotel near Universal?

Hi. Just in the preliminary stages of planning our next trip. It looks like we may fly in on Friday night, arriving at the airport around 9:00. I figure by the time we pick up the car and get to the hotel it will be at least 10. So, I am thinking about staying the night in a cheap hotel near Universal (or anywhere between there and the airport), and then checking in to HRH in the morning. Does anyone know of an inexpensive but decent hotel en route? Thanks!

There are a lot of them on Major Blvd. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express the night before checking into the onsite hotel.

that is exactly what we are doing! our flight arrives at 8:30pm on nov 2nd and i booked the best western near universal on expedia for $67. we will check out early and head over to hrh for an early check in then straight to wwohp!!

A friend and I considered do the same, but I got the veto! Anyway, right across the street from universal is double tree which I found for $69 at night

That's a great rate!!! I just looked and they want $144. for a Jan. stay.
Can you tell me where you got that rate?

WE stay at the Calypso Cay Country Inn Suites. Very clean, cheap room, with free breakfast. IT is about 15 minute drive to US.

Thank you for all of the replies. We have actually decided NOT to go down the night before now. We have an early flight our first park day, so in reality it would probably only save us a couple of hours. We will be there for 4 days so even with a cheap hotel, it's not worth the extra night (we need 2 rooms), for a couple extra hours. Thanks!

Getting discounts on hotels near Universal Studios Orlando job a little different from getting discounts at the park. You can get discounts by booking your flights from a particular travel agency because some are affiliated with some of the hotels near Universal Orlando, to be provided by the discounts.
