We decided to travel to Orlando the night before our disney trip begins to take advantage of better air options. So.. Question is.. Where is a decent cheaper hotel to stay at? We will have a rental car so it doesn't need any shuttle service. Would like to be close to WDW.

Thanks in advance for any info.

We've done this twice and both times we used Priceline to get a very cheap room- $40-$50 bid for a 3 or 3 1/2 *. Once our flight was very late so we bid on airport hotels as I wanted to get to the hotel and bed as quickly as possible. The other time we got in early evening so we did Disney area.

We're not anti-Priceline but they do only guarantee bedding for 2 guests. Sometimes a call in advance to the hotel will get you bedding for 4 but they don't have to honor it and if they have no other rooms available you could be stuck.
Since we're a family of 4, and our kids are teens not wee little tots, we prefer Hotwire so we know everyone will have a place to sleep. :thumbsup2

Depending on the arrival time, we also like an airport hotel. They are usually less expensive and if our flight is delayed, we don't have far to go.
We once had a 9pm flight on a Friday night after school. A huge T-storm came through the entire east coast which caused massive delays. We were finally cleared for take off at 12:20am, arriving at MCO at 3am. We were so thankful to get the Hyatt right inside MCO so we could stagger to our room & crash.

Yes, Priceline only guarantees one bed but the OP didn't say how many were in her party. I also normally check Hotwire when traveling with more than two although both of our Priceline experiences in Orlando we're for a party of 4 and we had no problem getting a room with 2 beds.

Lots of options in Kissimmee. Do a search on the hotel travel sites (hotels.com, Trivago, Kayak etc) and then look at the reviews on tripadvisor.com to help avoid any surprises. All kinds of "stars" are available for all kinds of prices.

Good point with Priceline. I have a family of 5 and need a room with 2 beds. Cheap meaning with taxes under 75 a night. Decent hotel, not a run down type of place is what I am looking for.

Rates will vary depending on your travel dates. Look at hotels/motels near the Silver Spurs Arena (Osceola heritage park) in Kissimmee. I have friends who have stayed there for cheer competitions and I know they said they were very surprised at the accommodations (in a good way). I think the Super8 was one hotel they stayed in. I plan on staying near the arena next month for a cheer competition so I hope I have happy with accommodations there as well.

I haven't stayed here, but the tripadvisor reviews look decent:
Bookit.com has a 24-hour deal expiring at midnight tonight for the Clarion Inn Lake Buena Vista. $49 Deluxe room with 2 double beds, sleeps 5. It says if you are having 5 in the room, you must rent a roll-away for $15, but that still comes in at or below your budget ...
I guesstimated from your ticker that you would be looking at November 7th or 8th, so this price is based on those dates ....

Op - I hope you do not mind, but I am going to piggyback on this really quick. We are getting in late, too, just before midnight. I REALLY do not want to pay $200/Pop Century for what will amount to about 7 hours? Ouch. (We are going Easter week..)

Anyway, can someone vouch for a hotel with airport shuttle close to MCO, that is clean and cheap (again, under $80 or so?)

Thx

When we usually do this, we stay at a hotel near the airport that has a shuttle to/from. Then, the next morning, we catch the shuttle back to the airport and catch the shuttle to WDW so we don't have to use a taxi or rental car. That being said, hotels with a shuttle to/from the airport are not usually cheap. There have been times we have used the hotel rewards points for a free night to do this. Even if they will let you use some rewards points to make the hotel more affordable ($75 range), that can be an option, too.

Curious as to what suggestions will be posted...

Hi OP! For your size party, check out Buena Vista Suites. We stayed here over labor day weekend. Close to Disney, all rooms I believe are suites (2 beds, fold out couch) We paid $100 a night (taxes included) which I know is out of your budget, but this was labor day weekend we stayed. Im sure rates vary due to seasons. There is also free complimentary breakfast, and it was yummy!!

Ive also stayed at Champions World Resort, but it is a little farther down. Still within 15 min of MK. It is an older "motel" type place. As in you park right outside your room. No interior hallways. We paid $35 a night here, and they probably have suites, but Im not sure the price of them.

Both of these are considered Good Neighbor Hotels to Disney. :)
And i would stay in both again if that helps!

When I want to look at bidding for Priceline, or trying to identify a Hotwire hotel I have found www.betterbidding.com extremely helpful.

$200 a night for Pop does seem very high, we've also had to scramble to get a room when we found we could save $400 coming in 1 day early, but Pop was under $100.:drive:

We have stayed here on many short notice one night trips http://www.extendedstayamerica.com/hotels/fl/orlando/lake-buena-vista

Usually get it for ~45-55/NT. Rooms have 2 queen beds, and a pull out sofa sleeper. The also have a mini-kitchen and a dinette area. Also have free wi fi, parking, breakfast, and no resort fee. It is close to DTD, off of I4 and Vineland rd. We think for out family of 4 for one night, it's great!

Great Suggestions everyone. Thank you. I am finally getting a chance to look into them now. Will let you know what I choose and how much it was.

We are a family of 3 and I have been bidding on Priceline since 2000. In that time, I have only ran into a problem with bedding TWICE out probably 50 reservations. Once was in Chicago and I won the Palmer House and they put us in a tiny room with one queen sized bed. Luckily, my DD was not with us or we would have had a problem! The second was in a Chicago suburb at the Extended Stay Lombard. When we got there and they charged us another $25 per night for an extra bed :badpc:.

I would check www.betterbidding.com for hints on bidding on Priceline and Hotwire. A properly negotiated "Name Your Own" price on Priceline will always be less than Hotwire's price. You can also look at Priceline's version of Hotwire called "Express Deals". It's fairly easy to figure out the hotel possibilities using Priceline's regular hotel list and cross-referencing things. I find the Express Deals for the same hotel to be a bit lower, but you can't guarantee bedding with Express Deals either.
