I'm visiting my sister in SD and we'll be driving up to Disneyland for 1 night/1 day to see Cars Land. I have DVC but don't want to use it for 1 night to just sleep in the room. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive hotel within walking distance and maybe a free breakfast? Not asking too much:) We would need a suite or 2 rooms (2 adults/5 kids).

Check the Rodeway Inn on Harbor. It is a couple of blocks past the convention center, but breakfast is usually toast and cereals.

It is basic lodging, but usually is under $60 or so.

Park Vue Inn has suites and is across the street from DL/DCA.

BWPPI has one room with enough beds for 5 (2 Queen beds and a pull out sofa). Sounds like you want a seperate sleeping area for at least some of the kids.

Both have free breakfasts.

what do you consider inexpensive for a 2 room suite, and for a single room? and when are you going?

While I was watching recently a new episode of Cops in OC, I discovered The Blue Motel, not to be confused with The Little Boy Blue Motel, although they are very similar in nature. Anyway, The Blue Motel provides 24 hour front desk services, easy check out, hourly rates, a day old newspaper (For history buffs) complimentary coffee and muffins in the morning, breath mints in every guest room, a pool, Jacuzzi and special saunas as well. Local phone calls are free, so is the WIFI, there are special turn down services and housekeeping likes to place chocolate mints on the pillows too. Parking is off street, but the area is more or less safe, so not to worry too much about that factor. There is also an ART stop that is on the street corner next to the liquor store, which by the way even with its close proximity they deliver and do so at no extra charge.
The motel also provides premium channels and a phone book in every room. In addition there is a mini fridge fully stocked, but it mostly has Vodka in it, and there is also a coffee maker... but management is thinking about removing those from all of the rooms because they are tired of getting complaints from housekeeping due to guests making oatmeal or boiling weenies and beans in it. Anyway.... don't make housekeeping mad, because they know where you are staying. And an angry housekeeper is like a crazy chimpanzee, not pleasant matter of fact they are just down right scary, believe me I know, for why do you think the cops were called there the last time?....

I was hoping for $200 - $250 for 2 rooms or a suite to sleep 7 (3 kids are 8, 10, and 13). We're going 7/29/12.

Thanks for the info.

I've never needed a suite so I have know idea about the price but I have a brochure with a bunch of hotels/motels in it and Tropicana Inn & Suites has a 2 room with kitchen (4 Queen Beds, or 1 King and 2 Queen). They offer a minimal continental breakfast-coffee, juice and pastries (unless this has changed in the last few years).

Only other one in the brochure is Anaheim Camelot Inn and Suites but it looks like they only go to 6 people-if one of the kids is under 3 it might work. 2 Queen beds and a double sleeper sofa. Says it has a continental plus breakfast.

Since it's summer it will be a little tough to get two rooms but possible. I would try the Ramada Maingate, they usually have little deal that will save 5-10% This is probably as close as you will get with breakfast.

Once you get out of the easy walking distance you will have more options. I would try the Super 8 on Katella, there is a America's Best Value near it too. Quality Inn manchester should also make the price point. On the SW corner of the resort is a BW Stovalls, Quality Inn, and BW Plus Pavillions.

For suites first try the ones that are across from the park, not in a particular order just roughly north to south. Camelot, Carousel, Tropicana, BW Park Place Inn, , Desert Inn, BW Anaheim Inn, I think all of these should have a suite or large occupancy rooms. The problem will probably be it's too late to get these limited room types. I would also try the Annabella hotel and Desert Palms for their suites.

Thank you for all those great ideas. I have looked into some of them. I did find Park Vue Inn for $220 for a 2 room suite that has 3 queen beds/free breakfast/free pkg across the street. Has anyone stayed there?

Lol...I was just going to tell you they had availability for that night! we will be staying in the 2 room with 2 queen beds and the sofa sleeper and kitchen in mid July for 8 nights. I did a lot of research on this place, they are rated the # 3 hotel in the area. I posted in another thread a few pictures I had from guests from trip advisor and reviews here on DIS from a few people who have stayed there, have been in the majority, very good. If it were me, I would go ahead and book it now, they do have a cancellation of either a couple of days or 7 days I honestly don't remember, with full refund. the price that comes up for me on their own website, is regular $193. web special is $189. and triple A is $186. They do have an extensive breakfast, and if someone is celebrating a birthday or anniversary they will get a little gift bag with candy toys helium balloons a coupon for a small icecream cake at the cold stone creamery etc. and you don't have to be having the birthday on the night you are there! both our grandsone and myself will be celebrating our birthdays :)

Thanks for the extra info and links-great details on the hotel. You sound like me, need to know everything that's available and compare every option. I booked the AAA rate of $186 and with taxes it's $220.

perfect, now you have time to keep looking and comparing knowing you have that locked in! You will be there about the time we are just getting home so my pics and real time opinion won't be any good for you. I totally have OCD when it comes to trip planning I just can't help it. :rotfl:

Alpine Inn. On Katella. As you said,,,'cheap'.

(call them direct)

A new scenario, looking for your opinion. I have the 1 night 7/29 booked in the 3Q room and now we want to stay a 2nd night. They don't have that room available (sounds like there's only one). So I booked the 2Q with sleeper sofa which has a kitchenette, looks smaller on the floor plans, and cost $20 more. I could get that room for both nights or should we stick with changing rooms?

Love to know if anyone has seen or stayed in these 2 different rooms?

Have not stayed yet, so I hate to give you advice, but if it were me, I would take the room I could stay in. having to move is a pain. They did not have the suite we wanted (2 queens and sleeper sofa with kitchen) for the 1st night we are there so we will have to move. for the first night we will be in the suite with 3 queens. At least we will know for next time which one we like best. I could reply here if I remember about the 17th or so, after we have stayed in both and let you know, but that wont' help because it probably won't be available then....
Oh and FYI they are not doing the gifts for birthdays and anniversarys anymore :( I was told we would have a coupon for a small size icecream cake at stone cold creamery, but that's it.

I tend to agree about not switching rooms. Do you think there is much difference in the room sizes based on the diagrams? I thought the 3Q looked larger. Do you prefer the 2Q/sofa sleeper because of the kitchenette? Every room has a fridge and micro so is it just the stove top that's additional? If you have time to post after your stay I'd still be curious to know about it.

Thanks, and enjoy your vacation!

I like the idea of having a "living area" where you can relax and watch tv for a while, or make a snack and eat it at least at the coffee table on the sofa as apposed to the bed. We will be staying for 8 nights, and daughter and her son have a tight budget so we plan on doing a grocery shop when we arrive and making some light meals to help her out (especially now that they have cut out the afternoon meal there) Grandson still naps everyday, so we thought for all of us or whomever is in the room with him while he's napping, it would be nice to be able to sit and watch tv without disturbing him. for us, it will just work better I think. It's hard to say about the size because they are configured differently, it does look like the main area of the 3Q is bigger. I like that there are 2 vanity areas in the other one though, makes it easier for getting ready for our situation, as in daughter takes a long time with the hair/makeup thing. while she's doing that in the main area, hubby and I can be taking turns in the bathroom. plus there's a small kitchen sink another person could use if need be. the 3Q only has the one sink. It all depends on how your family functions I guess. I will for sure post here after we have stayed, if I remember to bring the cable for my camera I will even upload photos! Oh also, we will all be sleeping in the bedroom area, no one will have to use the queen sleeper sofa. I don't know how comfortable that would be, for younguns it would probably be fine :)

Too funny, I just called and switched to have the 2Q/sofa room for both nights. I looked at pics on tripadvisor taken by other vacationers and saw the kitchen layout with the extra vanity. That will definitely come in handy. You say they are not doing the bday gifts or afternoon snack?? That's disappointing, I was telling my sister we'd be all set with food. How did you hear about that or did you ask them?

Nope, don't count on the birthday gift. They are discontinuing the 'extras' as of today (7/1/12). No more Welcome basket, birthday gifts, free water or afternoon "hors dorves". They will continue the cookies/lemonade at check in time, however. :sad2::sad2:

Don't forget breakfast, there is still that! :goodvibes
