I have been scouring craigslist for stuff for weeks to no avail.

I really want to find a nice loveseat and dining room table that don't cost a fortune.

Any suggestions for inexpensive places to acquire furniture besides IKEA?

Do you have an Odd Lot's nearby?

Sometime's furniture stores have big mark down's when they've got an odd piece left from a set--you might want to call around.

There'll be people who will say it's cheap crap & so on, but considering I've got kids & pets, I'm not willing to pay a couple grand for furniture that may get some serious wear & tear to it. I was able to get a microfiber sofa & loveseat from there for $500 (yep, for the set!) & the set still looks brand new 3 years later. I figure I'll save my pennies for the fancy stuff after the kids leave home. :)

Check the salvation army... I'm not kidding!!! My mom is there almost every Thursday night because they bring in the mother load of JCPenney leftovers. She has gotten brand new leather sofas, beautiful coffee/end tables, entertainment centers, etc and she spent maybe a quarter of what it cost in the store.

Check out furniture stores in your area. Alot of times they will have mark downs trying to make room for new stuff.

Edited to add :that I agree, salvation army is a really good place to look. You can find some great deals in there.

We donated dining room set that was in very good shape (a few scratches on the table top, but throw a table cloth over is and you'd never see the difference!) to the Salvation Army when we left NJ--the style wasn't going to work in our Florida house. So there are some good deals there.

And I agree wholeheartedly about not getting good furniture when you've got young ones. My son was 19 before we bought the "good stuff", and even at that the family room sofa is leather and not top of the line, and his furniture in his room is a combo of Wal-Mart and "Futon World".

You can check your local furniture stores to see if they have a 'Clearance Warehouse.' We just bought my 4 y/o DS a bedroom set all for $700. It's by Kathy Ireland. I think her furniture website is: www.standard-furniture.com but I can't remember what else her line carries. It's known to be price friendly & it is very attractive. (If I have the website wrong, I'll edit it later on!)

Check the Goodwill and America thift Store they have excellent deals. I got my loveset and chair that match for less then 50.00 dollars brand new. I got my dining table and chairs for 25.00 dollars. My 2 recliners for 10.00 pieace and they ic comfort. Thrift strores has excellent deals on furtine

sometimes a high quality gently used set is better then a new cheap set. I've never seen anything good in a thrift store. But look in your newspaper. This way you can go to the home so you will know if they were smokers, had dogs, etc.

Did you look on Ebay?

Also, if you're near an Air Force Base, it seems like people are always getting rid of furniture as they get stationed overseas.
