Cheap flights?

My DMIL is very impressed that I am able to get such good deals, particularly when it comes to travel. She asked DH today if I would be willing to help her find a cheap flight. Only problem is I have never booked a flight before. I have no idea where to begin.

She wants to leave out of Montgomery, AL and fly to Wilmington, NC on October 16-18th. I don't think there are even any flights from Montgomery to Wilmington but I guess the next best thing would be Birmingham or Atlanta, GA.

I use itasoftware. Log on as guest. It's the best search engine for airline tickets. give me your airport codes and I'll pull the flights up.

Try Southwest also. The travel search engines don't include SW.

Wilmington is a very expensive airport to fly into and out of. We have Allegiant (only to Florida), USAirways, and Delta. She could get Delta through Atlanta into Wilmington or USAirways through Charlotte. Is Huntsville, AL close to her? The flyilm.com homepage is advertising RT flights from Huntsville for $173, but I didn't look at the dates.

If she is willing to fly into Myrtle Beach, she adds a few other airlines, like Spirit and Continental. Myrtle Beach is 1 1/2 hours or so from here. Raleigh Durham Airport (RDU) is two hours from here and has many airlines, including Southwest.

I generally use farecast.com (now bing.com) to check fares from Wilmington. It is showing RT fares of $209 for those dates on USAirways, which is actually pretty good for us!

SW unfortunately doesn't fly to Wilmington. We have to drive to Raleigh to get SW.

Not sure if any of these airlines fly out of/fly to where your looking but here are some options:

Montgomery is nearly cost prohibitive to fly out of and Wilmington is very expensive to fly into.

Try Atlanta and perhaps you can do better.

I avoid Southwest at all times but if you need a cheap flight they work. Ditto with Delta. Have you tried Kayak.com?

How do I find the airport codes?

Montgomery, AL is MGM. Wilmington, NC is ILM. Most search sites will also let you type the city name and will offer airport codes to match if you don't know them.
