I've been checking with Southwest Airlines periodically for any cheap tickets to Orlando; I also subscribe to their weekly e-mail. I hadn't seen anything on the email lately, so I went to their website and entered our dates (which were finally in their range- they only book so many months out and our March 8th return time was finally up!) Anyway, I got 4 roundtrip tickets from Portland, OR to Orlando for...........$762!!! I couldn't believe it! $83 each way---3,000 miles for $83 bucks! I immediately booked it and called my Mom & Dad who live in San Jose and and told them to check out the fares (they're going too.) Their's was even cheaper at I think $320 total for TWO roundtrip tickets. If you live on the West Coast and are going to Orlando between now and early March- check it out and book before the fares are gone! I'm pretty sure it was an internet only special..my husband and I are just ecstatic- first the Contemporary for $66 a night (SOG rate) and now this! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Wow,

Good job, Alice. Disney CAN be done on a budget!

What are your days / dates of travel??

We are flying out (redeye) Thurs. Dec 5 and returning Sat. Dec 21 and today got $219.50 RT on Delta out of Sacramento, compared to the 353.50 on ATA out of SFO, I could NOT pass this up. But you beat me by $30 each.

Portland Or. to MCO via Orbits and Northwest Airlines was $187. rt for 3 adults, this evening. And times weren't that bad either.

$187 per person

$15 service fee
$576 trip cost
Northwest Airlines 584
Sat, Dec 14
7:00a-5:37p
Portland (PDX) Orlando (MCO)
total duration: 7h 37min 1

Northwest Airlines 579
Wed, Dec 18
4:45p-7:25p
plane change
Orlando (MCO) Minneapolis (MSP) 1

Northwest Airlines 597
Wed, Dec 18
8:55p-10:36p
Minneapolis (MSP) Portland (PDX)
total duration: 8h 51min

We are flying out of PDX on Thursday, Feb. 27th at 6:25 AM; it has 1 stop, but we don't get off the plane (I think it's in Kansas City); we arrive in MCO at 3:40. So that's a total of 6 hours 15 minutes air time. We return Saturday, March 8th, leaving MCO at 4:10 PM, one stop (again we don't get off the plane) and are in PDX at 8:25. Perfect times for our family- leaving it will get us acclimated to East coast time, and coming home we will have plenty of time for a nice breakfast, last minute swim perhaps. I will pack sandwiches, fruit and some chips/cookies for our flight. We will be traveling with a 5 year old and a 20 month old, so I love that we won't have to get off the plane, etc.

You might want to bring some form of entertainment...6 1/2 of no frills each way...I rather pay a few extra bucks (or save a few on Priceline)...bring my headphones...watch movies...listen to tunes and relax while I dine on a few airline goodies.

MD80 and/or 737 on flights here along the West Coast is fine...but across country...give me a wide body Jumbo!

Have fun...and get to the gates early because SWA doesn't have reserve seating.

Yeah, there are good airfares to be had -

We are leaving the week before Thanksgiving and got a deal through United for $225 roundtrip - NONSTOP - from LAX to Orlando - We bought that one right away when we saw it!

Glad we all got such great deals!

Yes, I definitely plan on bringing toys, books, handheld games to distract my kids with. The thing with kids is, or the ages my kids are anyway, even if we paid more money to fly on a more frills airline, chances are the movie wouldn't be geared to them (my 15 month old hardly even pays attention to the tv unless maybe it's Sesame Street), and they would think the food was yucky (we fly Alaska Airlines sometimes up and down the coast and my older son thought their food was weird). So, I'm very happy with Southwest- and it doesn't really matter how early we show up, cause we will get pre-board status with our baby. :) I like Southwest because I think their service is top-notch- extremely friendly people who have a great sense of humor.

For anyone else looking for good fares, check out Yahoo for special web fares (expires Oct. 9). There are some fares on Continental and American for about the same price as Southwest.

I'm on Continental out of Sacramento for $179.90 r/t in early Feb. I just couldn't pass it up!

My husband and I have observed that its at least $80 more to fly out/in of PDX than out of SEA or some other airport. I really don't know why, its not like its off the beaten path or anything. We ended up getting tickets out of SEA and now have a little extra $$ for the trip.

We just took the redeye from SAC to ATL to BWI last saturday night, the folks behind us were heading for disney, changing planes in Atlanta. It was a full flight, no extra room at all, try sleeping all night, sitting up next to strangers!!! It was a 757. We landed in ATL at 5:30 a.m. We were wiped out the whole next day.

UGH!! I hope ours isn't full...I know I won't sleep if I am next to a stranger...luckily we have the entire first day to sleep and relax.
