I'm looking for a cheap pair of glasses. I just can't afford to spend a lot of money since I mainly wear contacts and my insurance doesn't pay for them. Anyone have any sites/places they get a good deal on glasses?

subbing in . . . I'd like to know of a source too!

Zenni optical! www.zennioptical.com Between my DH and I we have about 10 pairs! I buy the $8-9 ones, and switch them often... plus wear contacts. I use my insurance to buy my contacts, and buy glasses from zenni. It may help you to go to a optical store and try on frames, see what looks good on your face, then compare with what they have.

Another vote for Zenni. they have a new feature where you can upload a picture and 'try' the glasses on.

Www.zennioptical.com I have ordered from them several times :)
Yet another vote for Zenni. DH just received 2 pair from them, cost around $100 total. He gets the no line bifocals and lens tinting. Plus he has astigmatism which always makes his glasses more expensive. It can take a while to receive them though(and they don't offer express shipping)....2-3 weeks for us. But, I read somewhere on their website that it usually takes longer to receive the no line bifocals. I'm saving 75% on glasses so I think I can handle the wait.:thumbsup2

BTW, when you get your prescription from your optometrist, make sure they measure your pupillary distance(PD). Zenni requires this when you order. You can also measure yourself or just go to a Walmart eye center. Their opticians did it for us even after we told them we needed it to order glasses online.

I've read mixed reviews about Zen Optical, both here and elsewhere. Walmart does have some for fairly cheap and you don't have to wait weeks for them to ship. Plus there's the accountability where you can speak to someone face to face.

I know they're kid glasses but my daughter recently chose (on her own) a pair for $9. With lenses they came to about $30.

I really like EyeMart Express here. You can get 2 pairs of no-line bifocals for about $200 and you can try on the glasses to make sure they will look good.

My eye doctor would not give me that information. I did get my eye glasses at Wal-mart and they are great.

I LOVE Zenni Optical. We were spending hundreds of dollars on my DS(12) glasses (that always seemed to break). We got 5 pair from them for about $100 total 2 years ago and not one of them has broken. If a 10-12 yo can wear them for that long and they don't scratch or break, that's saying a lot.

Ours took 5 weeks to receive. I was getting worried around week 4 and emailed them. They assured me that I would receive them soon and sure enough 1 week later they were there. I even received a follow up phone call from them at week 6 to make sure I had received them! So yes, they actually do have customer service.

It is extremely easy to measure your pupillary distance, they tell you how on their website. All you do is look across the room and somebody uses a ruler with centimeters on it and holds it up near the middle of you pupil. It doesn't touch your eye or anything and takes just a couple of seconds.

I agree. It is easy to measure your pd. But if you need bifocals or trifocals, it is important to get an accurate measurement. So, I would definitely want a professional to do it. Not as important if you only need single vision lenses.

Today I went for new contacts- my prescription had changed so much I needed new glasses also - the lenses were $490! just the LENSES!

$38 for frames and lenses at Walmart here, but I paid $55 for a really nice pair there...I am trying Zenni next, I had the Walmart salesclerk write down my p/d number so I can try Zenni...have some friends that go to Dr's Valuvision on a certain day each year that they do free exams, but I don't know what is included or the dates, but it never hurts to ask:goodvibes

This may be a silly question, but I have wondered what if you don't like the glasses from zenni, can you return or exchange?

Oh, I wondered what that PD was! I was looking on my DDs Rx sheet and didn't see it. I know some places can be really cranky about that so not sure I would feel comfortable asking. I will try the instructions on Zenni or go to Walmart. I would prefer Walmart since she could try on the frames and it would be instant, but would have to see what the price difference is. The Zenni ones sound like a deal.

I had ordered from Zenni once before. My DSD loved her glasses. I didn't care for mine as much. I have a strong prescription, and it felt like I was looking through a magnifying glass. Any specific type of lenses I should get so this doesn't happen?
