Cheap entertainment at Epcot

Is it just me or does the fact that on New Years Eve (12/31/04) the entertainment at the fountain in EPCOT was a disc jockey seem a little cheap? I have been to at least the past four NEW Years Eve celebrations at EPCOT and they have always had a live band. Is the bottom line at work again?

Depends on how good the DJ was.

I'm sure part of it is money, but part of it is likely also the fact that people don't come to Epcot for the bands. They come for the party atmosphere and the fireworks. Why spend a lot of money on a live band when that's not the focus? There are live bands during Flower & Garden and Food & Wine, and at various other times throughout the year. I think the lack of live band is due more to operational issues than anything else.

Isn't a band part of a party? Isn't dancing to live music more of a party atmosphere than a DJ? They also come for the alcohol.
With Eisner at the helm it is only getting worse. Even the Xmas decorations in Disney-MGM studios are sparse.
It is subtle things that show the trend towards cost savings. Such as hiring more temps. This generates less company loyalty and a "so what" attitude towards guests. GUESTS are slowly becoming customers at Disney

Again, it depends on how good the DJ is. I'd rather have a good DJ than a bad band, you know? I don't think a live band automatically makes the party better.

DH and I definitely go to Epcot for the bands! We love the British Invasion, Off Kilter, and Mo' Rocking. We changed the dates we were going to the Food and Wine Festival last year so that we could see Three Dog Night. Epcot wouldn't be Epcot without live bands. This may be a generational thing, though--DJs are popular with dance-type music for the under-40 crowd (I think--I'm part of the over-40 crowd so I'm not sure!).

We've seen the Epcot fireworks so many times that we usually leave during them to avoid the crowds afterwards.

Oh yeah, we come for the alcohol too! pirate:
