Cheap, comfortable shoes

We are going in May and I need an idea of what kind of shoe I should wear while at WDW. Mostly I have a problem with my heels. Thanks!

I am not sure what you consider cheap, but I recently bought a pair of Crocs for $30. They were very comfy on my trip to Universal. I did not even wear the sneakers I had brought with me. I wore my Crocs everywhere--except one night when we went out to dinner. They were really great on the water rides and I even wore them in the pool!

BTW--I have heel trouble too.

The last time we went to Disney, 2004, I, too, had problems with my feet. I got a blister the first day and it just continued to build over the week. I wore socks and bandaged it everyday. I was wearing "comfortable" sneakers but the suggestions I have gotten on this site is Crocs and I have bought two pair. We are really comfortable. JCPenney catalog (Spring page 216) also has something similar for $19.00 but they don't have as wide of a selection.

Heel pain? That's what I used to have. Went to a podiatrist and he made hard arch supports for me. I've had them for a year or two now and they've made all the difference for me. I wear them in my tennis shoes which I wear most of the time with a comfy set of insoles over them.

That and take a bottle of water, pour a little out, freeze it, and roll it under your arches while watching tv. It helps.

I need the support, so I can never wear sandals like others can at theme parks. Tennis shoes all the way for me.

I also had a lot of foot problems. At the worst of it I had a trip to the world scheduled. I was not sure I would be able to go. I got a pair of beach crocs about a week before. went and I had NO problems walking. cannot reccommend Crocs enough. My DD6 even prefers to wear her crocs at WDW.

Crocs are the best! I just bought a pink pair for my trip in 2 weeks. They are so comfy!

If I could get away with wearing them here in the snow I would I have never had a more comfortable shoe in my life. I can't wait to wear them in the parks.

I have heel pain also. I have tried everything and anything including custom made orthotics. I finally for a pair of tie hushpuppies. They are the only shoes that prevent my heel pain. My daughter said, 'Those shoes scream "I have bad feet". So when my pain went away, I bought crocs. At first they felt so good. But after wearing them for two days (I am a nurse), I had to go back to the hushpuppies. So, that's my story.

That's cheaper version of Birk's garden clogs! Cool but I wouldn't be caught in public wearing those.

Save some money & buy some decent comfy shoes (buy your arch support too!).

I would suggest bouncy and light shoes. Nike (Air Max line or Shox walking line) and New Balance (they would last a long time)

I find Nike Air Impel to be a great walking shoe. They have a lot of padding on the sole of your foot. They are on sale here:

I just ordered 2 pairs of crocs...even paid extra for quick shipping so I'll have them before my trip next week. I hope they're as good as everyone says.

I also have problems with heel pain (had surgery on both my heels at the age of 19). Whenever I wear a "regular" shoe, it rubs against the back of my heel and causes pain and inflamation. About 4 years ago, on the advice of my orthopedic surgeon, I switched almost 100% to "backless" shoes (clogs, "mules," sandals without backs, flip-flops). This has helped immensely. At WDW, I alternate between tennis shoes without backs (often called "mules" - Reebok and Sketchers make lots of them and they're very comfortable) and flip-flops.

I think it depends on the type of heel pain you have. Mine is on the back of my heel, so the backless shoes help immensely (along with stretching exercises that I do to stretch out my Achilles tendon). But if your pain is on the bottom of your heel, you might want to check with a podiatrist and see what they recommend. You might have plantar fasciatis (I know I'm spelling that wrong!).

Whatever you do, make sure you break in your shoes before you go! I thought I had broken in my shoes sufficiently for my trip last October (I wore my workout shoes, which I wear about 4 days a week). But got blisters anyways. My advice is to wear your oldest, most comfortable pair of shoes (even if they don't look that great); I wish I had brought that type of shoe with me on my trip.

I got a cortisone shot in each heel three days before Disney '01 and was ready to go. Unfortunately, I got blisters the first day from my Reeboks and had to switch to Teva sandals the second day. They were great! There are LOTS of styles, but the ones I bought had mega arch support and I still wear them all of the time!

(Sorry ya'll, but those Crocs are some ugly shoes!)

One more big vote for crocs! I just did a full day of walking in Legoland and a second at the San Diego Zoo. Usually my feet ache so badly I can hardly walk by the end of the day.

I purposely wore my Crocs...and no problem! My husband and daugther both wore theirs too! They are like a miracle shoe!

I have two pair of CROCS and I love them. My mom and my 3 kids have a pair and they love them to. I have plantar facsitis (wrong spelling) and have no problems wearing CROCS. They might not be very attractive to some but I would rather wear them than hurt for a week or longer while on vacation.

Believe it or not, the Cherokee brand shoes and sandals at Target are incredibly comfy. I have some flip-flop style sandals and wore them on our last two trips (one to WDW, other to Universal). The first day I every wore them, I walked over 2 miles in Boston without any foot pain. I have flat feet, prone plantar fascitis, tendonitis in my achilles and sore heels (bottom). I swear, they are the most comfortable shoes (sandal or not) that I own. I cringe at the start of cold weather because then I can't wear them anymore.

Bought them for $10 on sale or $20 regular price. They're so versatile and stylish that I can wear them with a suit during the summer to shorts. DH now won't by any other shoe other than Cherokee (he is a former Kenneth Cole fashion slave). He's found them to be just as stylish and versatile as other brand named shoe.

Stupid crocs beach question: I have sea blue and they are wearing out. Now I need to order another (w/out trying colors). Which colors look nicest with shorts or even skirts (eg: don't make my legs look pasty white, etc)? BTW, the beach crocs were so comfy that when we lived in Hawaii they were my "jogging" shoes as it was too hot for tennies. No blisters; total comfort.

I have bad knee and hip problems...I've give up on "cheap" all together. I only wear New Balance now...They make shoes for women's feet...not just "smaller mens" shoes....

If I "were" to do cheap, I'd probably be checking out the crocs!

My DM63 has a pair of the khaki color that she wears with everything. I bought the lt blue pair and now wished I had bought the same color as she did.
