Hi guys,

I'm trying to convince DH that we need to make a 10 day trip this November for our first wedding anniversary.

We usually do a package - most recently with Virgin Holidays - but I'm sure it must be cheaper to DIY.

Our car hire through Virgin/Dollar seemed quite steep last time - has anyone gone through someone else? Found a bargain? We'd be after a 4 door economy picking up from orlando international.

Go on, share your secrets :goodvibes

Mousesavers posts discount codes which can be used at nearly all of the car rental websites. My recommendation is to
a) use a discount code and book your car on a US website in $USD
b) take out your own hire care insurance policy (about £75)
c) reject all of the optional extras upon arrival - everything you need will be covered by your policy.

:wizard:

Thanks guys I'll check them out :)

I used them last year as they were the cheapest - and they give 2 drivers as standard.

The booking I took was with Dollar so USCarHire didn't really have anything to do with the way Dollar charge for gas.

On arrival Dollar gave me the option as to whether to prepay the gas and return the car empty or to return car with a full tank. I chose to return the car full. I filled up near downtown disney and just returned the car almost full - I never got charged anything extra.

I also got upgraded free of charge. I had booked a full size car and the assistant didn't even try and get me to pay for an upgrade - they just gave me a luxury car which was an SUV and very comfy. I reckon that coming off a Virgin plane they keep all the full size cars for the Virgin passengers.

I have booked again with them next year.

Fantastic! Thanks Tartangirl. The dollar price was cheapest - and we usually use them so I know they're good. I'd rather bring the car back with a full tank... much cheaper to buy gas than pay what dollar charges for it!
