Hi all - now that we have bitten the bullet and are flying down to disney - we need to find a cheap but safe hotel to stay in the night we fly in -

ANY ADVICE???

THANKS!

Have you looked into the Hyatt at MCO? There isn't anything more convenient than a hotel in the airport! It's not expensive nor is it cheap, but you can often find a good discounted rate on Priceline, Orbitz, Travelocity, etc.

I'd also recommend checking out the DTD Resort Area (official website). Most of them have excellent reviews and from personal experience, The Royal Plaza was great. VERY comfortable beds and at a great price (I found a coupon code online which dropped the rate to $89/night but that was back in '07). The Hilton is directly across the street from DTD so if you're planning on doing something other than sleeping on your arrival day, that might be a good choice.

I'd check any of the hotels in the airport vicinity, they tend to have free transportation back to the hotel if that's how you are getting to your resort the next day. I've stayed at the Marriott for $89; I got a good rate at the MCO Hyatt for $135 also.

You can get a one bedroom suite with a full kitchen and free breakfast at Quality Suites lake Buena Vista for about $70 a night if you book it online and pre-pay. We have stayed there a couple of times and they have wonderfully comfortable beds and dreamy pillows.

It's on Palm parkway in a good safe area surrounded by shops and restaurants. And it is one block from CiCi's Pizza!!

I would just find a less expensive room at Disney. We just switched from driving to flying, and will stay at a value (POP) for the first time, before staying at BC and BLT. I gave the family a couple of options (offsite and on, from $80-$300/night-AoA) and DS3 flipped out about staying at POP. So POP at $117 it is. We are getting in at 7pm, so I couldn't really justify a more expensive room.

I suggest looking into either booking a Disney Value or if you are a family of 4, renting one night at a DVC studio ($100-$160/night). There are several people with 'holding point's meaning that they can only book rooms in the next 60 days, and are offering $9/point, which is great. I had to add a day at the end of our trip on Dec 13 (again, now flying) and wanted the option of using Magical Express, couldn't justify the huge jump in pricing at WDW hotels, so booked one night at Kidnai, savannah view for $160. Within 12 hours of contacting a DVC owner, I had a signed contract and paid via Paypal. Guy was thedon3 at aol dot com. He was very easy to work with.

I wanted the trip to start with a bang at a Disney hotel...not a bang the day after we fly in, KWIM?

Thanks everyone...this is great advice! I think for the night we fly In I am kust going to try to find something cheap cuz we won't grt checked in until after 11 but for the extended day I am definitely going to check out all this great onfo -- unfortunately we r flying into sanford not MCO -- so no magical express for us :(

I second this. We stayed here last week the night before our Disney trip began. Booked a Food & Wine rate of $56. Took about 2 minutes to arrive on Disney property the next morning and we checked in at AoA and made it to rope drop with time to spare.

Awesome!!!

We drive down and always stay an hour away at the clean and quiet Day's Inn at Ormond Beach. Then we check in at like 9am at Disney the next morning. We pay like $50 for the night and it has breakfast.

I am a fan of priceline/hotwire low prices for 'unknown' hotels...and using betterbidding dot com. to figure out what the hotel is. Have booked 4* hotels for under $100. Have a great trip!

I was burned by hotwire once for a hotel the night before checking into our disney resort hotel. We booked a 3.5 star through hotwire and I thought I knew what it was through better_bidding, but you really can't be sure. The place was a complete dump. Poorly maintained and with some loud hotel dance party that only two middle aged women were actually attending that was blasting music all night. We got free breakfast vouchers after we complained that we couldn't sleep. The free breakfast amounted to cold cereal and bad watered down orange juice. It was seriously a bad start to the vacation and I won't ever use hotwire again, at least not for my WDW trips. I'll spend that extra $100 and go straight to the world and stay there.

Clarion LBV is often listed on bookit for $49/nt. I haven't stayed there but it has good ratings.
