cheap but clean hotel

I am desperately searching for a cheap hotel for 12 days in July/Aug. I've looked in many places for reviews, which of course, can just make it even more confusing - I guess it boils down to a personal opinion. I do want a clean room, don't mind if there's a little noise, and I'd like to have free shuttle as I won't have a car, continental breakfast would also be awesome. I'm considering taking my chances with priceline 2.5*, hopefully for $30 or less. What do you think?

That would be my suggestion...only watch out for the Nikki Bird HI...it's pretty bad I think. The other PL 2.5* places seem fine. You might check Hotwire also...their rates may be more than PL but better than booking directly and you can avoid the Nikki Bird that way.

See what's available for your dates.

I am looking for the same thing. Priceline has a real stinker from what I have been reading at the 2.5 level so I am looking for another way. I found this site

http://www.easyclicktravel.com/SearchHotels.aspx

It lists a ton of rooms in the $25-$35 range. I need some reviews from people here on these low end places... I just need the night after our Dreammaker, so all I need is clean beds.

You're right HaleyB, Easyclicktravel.com is an awesome site. The rates are certainly better than I've seen as well. I would love to hear from anyone who has stayed at some of these $20-$30 hotels. I've tried emailing them though and the message comes back undelivered. I'd like to know if there is a cancellation charge.

I did get the Holiday Inn Nikki Bird through priceline in 3/04. I posted a full review on these boards. But to make a long story short. No where near a great place, BUT (and this is a big but) not the worst either. I won't stay again-- I'd rather pay the extra $10 and go to the next star level w/ priceline. But many people don't mind it there. I'd do a search on it, because it does come up often and it is cheap!

Hi,

I know that Hotwire is a bit more expensive but they may be worth a shot. I got the La Quinta Inn/Lakeside for $21.00 per night from hotwire. I've stayed there in the past and have been very happy with the property. If you do a search you'll see a lot of positive reviews. We'll be staying there next week for 7 nights so I'll post a review when I get back. Now I don't know if anyone else has gotten such a low rate for the hotel since I booked back in Jan. 04. The normal rate for the hotel is $49.00 - $69.00 per night. HTH

DH and I have stayed at the Clarion Resort Maingate for $26-30 via Priceline (2.5 stars, WDW area). It was older but clean and safe (no free BF though). I think you are going to run into problems with the shuttle, though. The hotels share a shuttle service and apparently the service, in general, is just awful. Even the more expensive hotels that supposedly have better shuttle service (for instance, the Downtown Disney hotels) are pretty lousy.

Some folks on the Dis boards have suggested using public transportation (bus) rather than relying on a hotel shuttle. You might want to post a question on shuttle service before you decide to stay offsite and rely on a shuttle.

I think if I was going to be carless, I would try to get a good discount code and stay onsite in a value resort--you can hire a towncar from the airport that will stop at a grocery store so you can buy lots of snacks to eat in your room.

Thanks floridagirrl2. I think you're right about 'shuttle trouble'. I would really like to avoid renting a car. This needs to be a 'cheap trip' for me this time. I was hoping that we could use the public transit system. I thought as long as I got the schedules, they must run from most hotels to WDW and US until the parks close. I looked at the Lynx website, but since I don't know what hotel I'll be at I can't be sure. Maybe I should look for a hotel for the first week near WDW and the second week near US....

Get the floridakiss.com book. Have it mailed to your home. They have a alot of rates at $30 a night - usually $5 - $15 higher during this season.

This days in is 36.50 a night. It keeps going up. My sister booked here for $29 in February. Its about 3.5 miles from disney. This is the Days inn that is next to Splendid China. I have read reviews on this hotel - none of which were bad. The days inn near DTD is around $50 a night. Travelocity had a sell on it last week for $40 a night - I booked in directly with Days Inn to get the best rate discount.
