cheap airlines?

Hey everyone,
I am planning a trip to Western Europe next year, and I keep hearing about all of these amazing companies that offer cheap airfare all over the place. Can anybody provide me with a link or names of some of these companies?
Also, I am going to be doing some voluntary work in South Africa. I will be landing in Gatwick London airport from Canada, and will need to take a flight from London to Ghana. Can anybody recommend a site or an airline that could get me there safely?

I wouldn't think you'd get one of the budget airlines to get you to Ghana - but some of them are as follows:

easyjet
ryanair
bmi baby
flybe
