Where is everyone? I'm just sitting here watching the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games. I was going to boycott watching them, because I'm very upset that all of the clothing we that is made in China is of substandard quality and the buttons fall off. I for one and tired of re-sewing buttons into Made in China clothing!!! Will somebody please go over there and teach them how to use good strong thread to sew buttons on?

However, DH wanted to watch, so we are.

Ahhhh, I guess it's a good thing no one's here. DS4 pooped in his pull-up just as I logged in, so now I need to go supervise the clean-up. (Mama's playing hardball; Daddy is still a sucker to the pouty lips and crocodile tears.)

I must say I am quite impressed with the Olympic Opening Ceremonies, quite elaborate and beautiful.

I always love watching the opening and closing ceremonies. I'm sorry to have missed it, but the boys really wanted to watch a Scooby Doo DVD we rented.

Oh sure, now that I'm sitting here half asleep and was just about ready to head to bed you want to talk.

DS just came in and told me...boy Mom if you ever wanted to see Extreme Arm Wrestling you should come see this now! Yeah buddy, that's right on top of the list of things I want to see. He's really been getting into Wrestling on tv lately.

Geesh, I don't know which is worse...Scooby Doo or WWE??

Ds7 really likes WWE, too. DH would let him watch it, but I lowered the boom on that one.

Scooby Doo is stupid but harmless, I sure as heck didn't want the kids mimicking the trash talk or moves from WWE.

Ds7 really likes WWE, too. DH would let him watch it, but I lowered the boom on that one.

Scooby Doo is stupid but harmless, I sure as heck didn't want the kids mimicking the trash talk or moves from WWE.

I guess that's the good thing about having only 1 boy. He really doesn't have anyone to practice the moves on. Most of the time his sister ignores him, as most 16yo older sister's do. Actually she went camping and boating this weekend with one of her friend's family. So she won't be home until tomorrow afternoon.

It's nice to have only one child sometimes. Reminds me of our early parenting days, which were much easier, no squabbling, or one egging the other on in misbehavior.

If you do get a chance to see all of it you should watch. It is really neat. I don't know if recaps would do it justice. There are over 15,000 performers. I think it is one of the best opening ceremonies I have seen. They said China had spent 10x more money on the ceremony than any country ever had.

I've really enjoyed having them that far apart. They still fight and squabble, but it's on such different levels. There really isn't any real competition between them, only jealousy. I guess that's because they both mistakenly thing they are an Only Child.

CNN said something about China considering it (the opening ceremonies) a "coming out" of sorts. Are they trying to become more ... what's the word... more of a market-driven economy?

They were talking about that before the opening ceremony. Over half a billion people in China live on the US equivalent of $2 per day. But yet they also now have several hundred million that are the US equivalent of being millionaires.

Hard to know what they are trying to do or how they will or will not change after this.

Too true. Have you ever read up on how birth order affects personality? I think it's a fascinating subject. Most of the generalities fit my siblings and me, but my eldest brother does not fit the mold.

You would never guess I'm the oldest. I am so the typical oldest child, bossing everyone around and thinking I have to be in charge of everything.

My sister has the typical middle child syndrome.

Then my baby brother is very obviously the baby.

My kid's personalities fit the typical birth order personality mold also.
