I think some studios just like in the Karate Kid movie might be more aggressive but that is not how real karate is supposed to be taught.

I agree. There are good and bad schools, or maybe just better schools that focus more on self-defense and respect and discipline. I should say that both DH and FIL have studied martial arts, I've had only one karate class in college, so I'm the one who has the least knowledge on the subject.

DH saw many things happen with kids in his youth that he'd like to avoid with our boys, and FIL named two forms that truly are all about self defense, and turning the attacker's force to your advantage in defending yourself. (Naturally I can't seem to keep the names in my head longer than 5 minutes...) I think even once you decide on a discipline, the school and instructors make all the difference. Just like in any other subject, right? Usually there are a few bad teachers to avoid, most are good and caring, and some are just incredible.

DS4 is a wild and crazy guy until he realizes people are watching, and then he totally curls into a ball. He'll hide his face on my body (wherever he can reach) and is totally embarrassed. He cries sometimes, too, because he's so overcome. It's cute but saddening to me, because it's so unlike his normal personality. I was shy as a kid (I still have my moments), and I was so hoping my boys would have DH's confidence.

He JUST started coming out of his shell this year and I'm not even sure 3 months ago he would have done this. So there is hope.

Is GI Joe's a store? Sounds cool but we dont have them. I'm headed to big 5 and now Kohls to check them out. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look at sports authority too but I dont think they had them this weekend but I wasnt really searching.

I have NO CLUE what is wrong with Cheese Its. He just said he didnt want his friends to see them. Ummmm ok. He still wants to eat them at home. Now I have to go over what exactly are manly snacks and what are not.

Oh and he named his muscles, with my help. We were trying to hype up football and be all funny. You know how guys name their "guns" Well, I'm such a weather buff and he is starting to take an interest too so he says "This is Hurricane, This is Tornado, (puts his arms together in front) watch out for THE PERFECT STORM"

We told him this was just a joke not to do this on the playground only if they were playing around. Of course if he did do this I think most of the boys would laugh considering he weighs 37 lbs. They do stuff like this in football so I wanted him to have something to say when they were all messing around before practice so he felt part of the team.

I went to Target yesterday and I saw the back-to-school section was swarmed with parents and kids with the "I-wants" grabbing packbacks and folders and such. They have Camp Rock, Hannah Montana and HSM lunch totes and backpacks.


So where have you all been hiding? I was afraid I would have to make a jumbo sized priority chart for all of you

I've been taking the opportunity of being alone to run errands and soothing my sorrows by spending too much money. I need to run out to find these water bottles hopefully today and some more manly t-shirts, cuting out the disney ones we are short in our wardrobe selection for school.

Was that from Wal-Mart? We bought him a spiderman and hulk one that looked similar and they leaked like crazy. like he would tip it over and it would drip down the front of his shirt. So we took them back. I was disappointed because they were perfect. If it isnt from wal mart I might give it a shot.
