Chatterbox Thread-Cmon in and Jabber! Everyone is Welcome!

I would be really surprised if it isnt Bristol... She is such a pretty sweet young thing.. But her dancing.. YIKES! Reminds me of Kate. :lmao:

I don't watch regular TV, but from what I heard about Kate's dancing.. So did Bristol get kicked off?

Is the show that desperate for stars that they pick someone who really isn't a "star"?

OMG! I'm on dial up internet, this is freakin' hilarious!:lmao:

Our internet card broke. I paid for insurance in case it broke. Now they want another $50 to send a new one, even with the insurance! We only have 3 months left on the contract & I can pay a $70 early termination fee if I want to get out of the 3 months.

I'm so freakin mad that they won't replace it without a new 2 year contract.

:headache:
That's ridiculous! I would call again and ask for their retentions dept, maybe with a different agent you will get a better response. People post on Slick deals all the time of how they hang up and call to get another agent to get the desired response.

Heck check on Slick Deals for any "get out of contract free" threads. If the company changes even a small fee you can call them and say how unhappy you are .. ta-da.. no fees, out of contract. :thumbsup2
Slightly underhanded, borderline creepy? Possibly
Worth the money staying in your pocket? Heck YES!

Hopefully the other signal works for you, that's a killer price for high speed. ::yes::

:cool1:
Did my doubling run. Sis went to the other location today, we are both so tired of dealing with staff restocking on a busy coupon morning.
What a change! I sped thru and they had everything I wanted. :goodvibes
The produce dept is lacking at this store.. but I tend to buy my produce at another chain or farmer's market anyway. It was nice to have the wider aisles and not as busy. It's in a low income neighborhood, sadly most people on food stamps don't use coupons.. which is just WRONG to me. You can stretch that dollar a lot further if you play the coupon game. :thumbsup2

$68 in groceries before coupons
After coupons (store, 5 doubles, free, high value) it was $24
:woohoo:

Real food too! Organic milk, organic sour cream, orange juice, eggs, 7 bags shredded cheese, 3 blocks of cheese, 2 sausage rolls, grapes, bananas, cream, brats, tortillas, TP ( I aim for 1¢ per sq foot, scored at less price this time) and freebie coupons for non food items.

mmmmm, can't wait to crack open that organic milk! They haven't had a good deal to match with coupons for a VERY long time. :drinking1
And yeah, it costs more per gallon than the cheapie milk.. but we will actually DRINK all of the organic. The cheapie stuff is okay for a few days before it tastes gross and chemical residue slim. Ewwwwwww!

Yet the more expensive non organic bgh free does NOT taste bad. Makes ya wonder, huh?

Our two year contract ends in January, so not really a big deal. I would like to get away from AT&T if I can. Being able to have only 1 computer on the internet at a time is starting to suck. When it was just me, not a problem. But now that DD is in college she's using the internet for her school projects and has to turn in assignments. DS seems to be addicted to Farmville. And having to run thru the house and holler "where's the internet" is starting to sound stupid!:lmao:

All of our phones are off contract and I will most likely switch them to Walmart's new family plan. I'm just tired of AT&T and their games!

Interesting, I know when my sister was using food stamps here in WA she was given information & encouraged to use mfg. coupons.

I was just reading the USDA's EBT rules on coupons and found something interesting. If you use a mfg. coupon where you have to buy two items to get the amount off...say buy 1 box of Wheaties (food stamp item) and 1 pair of Nike shoes (non food stamp item) and get $2 off...you can choose where to apply the $2. So you can have them apply the $2 off to your non-food stamp item (the shoes) so you pay less cash.

That doesn't happen very often, but brings up an interesting concept as more states try to restrict "junk food" items from food stamps. For instance, WA state allows EBT for take n bake pizzas. So if you have a coupon good for "Buy 2 Pizzas & 2 liters of Soda Pop & get $2 off" and your state considers soda pop a non-EBT item, you could use the coupon and pay for the pizzas and get the $2 taken off the soda pop. But what if the soda pop is only 99 cents a liter? They would then owe you 2 cents.

BTW, DD's BFF works at Papa Murphy's pizza. They only do take n bake and accept EBT for pizzas. She said that approximately 90% of their business is EBT and the manager said it had been every since the state started allowing EBT for take n bake pizzas. That explains why there seems to be a take n bake pizza shop on every corner around here. Not only that, she said that the majority of the people that clip their coupons are non-EBT customers.:sad2:

I bet you could double your EBT card amount each month by following their rules and this simple plan...

Go to a store that offers money back if the price is incorrect. Pick a store that has price checker scanners. Put a little post it note on each item indicating the shelf price. Go to the scanners before checking out, if the price differs, separate that out. Go to customer service with probably 30% of your cart of groceries with incorrect prices and get the credit applied to your EBT card.

Wait until the next day and do it again.

Wait until the 3rd day and do it again.

I have found in the past, even if I do let them know about an incorrect price. Odds are they never bother to fix it!

I bet if a person had nothing better to do all day, they could easily turn $100 worth of EBT into $1000 a month!:rotfl2:

I just love playing by the rules...and coming out ahead!

:thumbsup2

I've read posts on slickdeals and other places that coupons end up costing them cash out of hand, cash they might not have to use. Maybe the key is to buy non taxed items only if using coupons and EBT. It would make my head spin to figure out why it costs more than I expected and wonder if the register screwed up charging me tax when it should not. (Most food is tax free in MN, pop/candy/chips are the exceptions of course. There is some weird one about 10% or less juice items and technically some candy is considered non tax if it has X amt of ingredients in certain categories... lost yet? yeah me too!)

The link you posted doesn't discuss gift card with purchase items. I read of someone using EBT in a Target GC with purchase deal on cereal.. Typically it's buy 3 of X , prompts cashier to scan a promo gift card. The $5 gift card is added and then subtracted from the order. However, EBT thinks of the GC as being a non food item, register charges the person $5 cash. :sad2:

Another stretcher idea.. buy food items that generate a catalina ($ off on you next order coupon). Use the catalina to buy non food items.. Ta da! You get toilet paper, toothpaste, pet food, deli with no cost out of pocket to you.

I don't think the Papa Murphy's in my area is very popular. It's rare to see anyone in there when we walk by .. and really we don't have very many locations in MN. And yes they take EBT.

Maybe because we have Target or Walmart if you travel 15 minutes in any direction. Both the "super" and regular stores have take N bake style pizzas

I'm always surprised that more people using the EBT haven't figured out the tricks to making their money go further. DS has a friend, his mom is a struggling single mom with 3 kids. Everytime she comes up I am always showing her coupon tricks, etc. Seriously, I think this woman spends more money on groceries and things then I do. I am now down to spending around $500 a month on groceries and that includes non-food items, shampoos, junk I throw in the cart at Walmart, etc. I haven't been clipping coupons much lately, but using E-Mealz I really haven't relied on coupon items. Plus I'm buying the rest of my stuff at Grocery Outlet warehouse, they don't take coupons, but their prices are so good that it's better then couponing without all the work.:thumbsup2

Washington state recently started taxing "junk food", just like what you described. But luckily we are smart people here...every time they try to sneak a tax in on us...we have rebels that get it on the next ballot and we vote it out. It's on our November ballot, so I imagine it will get voted right out!:lmao:

We have two take n bake pizza places in town and they are packed every night with people using EBT. If we get pizza, I use Figaro's because they will bake it for $1 more. I'm starting to think I'm the only person left in town that can actually get my pizza baked there!:lmao: When I tell them I want it baked, they always remind me that EBT is not accepted on baked pizzas. I usually ask if it's ok to pay with US currency...that always blows their mind for a minute.:lmao:

Did you know Kit Kats are not candy? According to MN sales tax they are not taxable as they have flour as an ingredient. If it was soy flour or other substitute.. it would then be candy.

Potato chips are a non taxable food, chocolate covered potato chips would be candy.

Trail mix is not taxable, add M&M's .. it magically becomes taxable.

Dried fruit - no tax, add "sweetener" of any type.. magically it's candy and thus taxable.

Then there is the weird things like pre cut celery (processed by the seller -- not a manufacturer), no tax. Celery combined with other foods, taxed. It's the combination with other items that makes it taxable. Then there is the ready to eat category and something about utensils packaged with product or available at point of sale... but my head started to hurt. :upsidedow

I believe that Washington borrowed Minnesota's tax law!:rotfl: Our's is almost identical. One of the political commercials trying to get rid of the tax has a local manufacturer of organic food bars saying that her product is taxed and some candy bar's aren't.:confused3 When they started taxing some food products a few months ago they even added a tax to bottled water.:sad2:

Food that we eat in restaurants or that is pre-cooked and/or consumed on premises has always been taxed, but the rest of it is new.

Our new high speed internet will be installed next Thursday.:cheer2: I opted for plan #2 which will cost $34 a month. If that is not enough speed, then I can step up in $10 increments. There most expensive plan is the same price as my current plan...crazy!

Their employee said the $34 plan should give me a bit better speed then what I have right now with AT&T internet card.:thumbsup2

Can I survive one more week of Netzero?:confused3 Only time will tell!

So I'm watching Crazy Sexy Cancer on Discovery Health. I've seen bits & pieces of the show, but never the very beginning.

Morning and happy Thursday. Had a nice lunch yesterday with my aunt who lost her husband in May. It was nice to see her and hear how she's been doing. Apparently she is doing an inquiry into my uncle's death and seeing an attorney. He died VERY suddenly and it was rather questionable how the hospital acted. There were a lot of questions and his cause of death was suspect. Sooo she is investigating. Shall be interesting to see what comes of it. Needless to say it was a shock. He wasn't that sick and went in to the hospital with supposedly a bad spleen was getting stablized for surgery the following Tues (this was on Fri) and died on Sunday. So SOMETHING was not done right and we believe they are covering something up. Anyway we shall see.

Anyway then mom and I went to bath and body and she got this really cute tote bag that she had been admiring last month that now was on clearance and I got a few more hand sanitizers in the new christmas scents as well as the christmas soaps.

Anyway the weather is finally starting to change and has gotten cooler and the rain is supposed to start tomorrow. I am SO bummed because of course the one day it is almost guaranteed to pour is the day we wanted to go to the pumpkin patch and we can't change because my mom has to work on Saturday and we have our soccer game. Oh well. I guess we will just play it by ear and see what happens but it isn't looking very good. Plus the girls were going to try and sell the rest of their pomegranetes and this was their last weekend to be able to do it and go figure it is going to rain. Don't get me wrong I am actually looking forward to some rain but for once I would rather have the rain DURING the week and NOT on the weekend. Oh well.

Got the last of our ADRS for our dec trip so we are all set now. Everything is done pretty much for Nov AND Dec now. Now we just have to wait. 3 weeks from today we leave for Florida. Can't WAIT!!!

Anyway have a good one everyone!

I don't think we would survive on dial up! We don't have regular TV so our only source of entertainment involves using our internet connection. Xbox 360, Wii, three Itouch, PSP, laptop and computer all hooked into the connection via wireless router.

oh wow kelly! I can't imagine doing an investigation when a person is still trying to deal with grief. Opening a wound that has not yet healed, I hope the investigation goes smoothly and the answers are found quickly to bring peace to your aunt and family.

The saga continues for me: No return calls or letters from our county case worker despite several calls left by both of us.
Today, Eloy called and asked for the operator to see if we have a new worker. Nope, no change. He asked if he needs to come to the office and see her..
No, the case workers do not see clients face to face.
Okay, what else can we do?
She connected him with the case workers supervisor, who has the same outgoing message about returning calls within 24 hours. :sad2:

I have this sinking feeling it's a worker we dealt with before who kept sending a form regarding an employer in St Cloud but wouldn't say WHY it needed to be filled out. We didn't have the time or money to drive to St Cloud (over an hour away) and hope the manager was on duty to fill it out. I kept sending the form back with the info I knew.. the case worker wouldn't complete the app process.

I finally called him and he yelled at me because
"your husband can't fill it out himself!"

(well gee, it doesn't even say employer only on the form..
so uhh how would we know?)

Turns out one of E's pay stubs was missing and the numbers were not coming out correctly to determine monthly income.

Now, if you have a question wouldn't you call the person?
Or at least send a letter to ask for another set of pay stubs??? :confused3

:headache:

:dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3:

This is the idiocy we are dealing with!

Never had this problem when we lived in other counties (E has been on various forms of medical assistance to pay the remaining 20% not covered by medicare for dialysis). Turned in forms, turned in proofs.. ta da.. week later it was processed. DONE!

I almost want to move just to be out of this county! If we moved a block up or a block over we would be in different counties.. that's how close we are to the lines between 3 counties. And sadly.. three school districts of various quality.

Smaller city does make it harder to coupon. Bummer on Food 4 Less and internet coupons.

I buy the Sunday paper on occasion, however I tend to get just as good of deals with printables.. but back when I lived in St Cloud (smaller college town) they didn't take printables. I would buy two or more papers a week, luckily I can buy the early Sunday edition on Saturday for lower cost.. or you can check if dollar tree carries the Sunday paper. Go for a BIG paper, maybe LA Times?

With multiples of the same coupon it opens up possibilities to buy enough of a sale item to last until the next time it is on sale (creating a stock pile).

Another option is to look into a coupon service. You pay a small handling fee per coupon plus shipping. Or look on ebay. The beauty of this method is you pick ONLY the coupons you know you will use. (why bother with diaper and dog food coupons if you have neither baby or puppy?)

Also, check out some great resources to get you started.
www.afullcup.com is a WONDERFUL resource and may even have forums for your specific stores.

Do you have Target or Walmart?

Target carries lots of grocery items and frequently has deals Buy 3 get $5 GC or buy x and x and get Y free. Combine their printable coupons (on Target website) with other manufacture coupons (they take printables) and you can totally score with free or very cheap food.. yes even at a regular Target! :thumbsup2

How about CVS, Walgreen's, Rite Aid? Combine coupons and their register rewards/easy care bucks for free shampoo, soap, deodorant, make up, hair color, etc etc etc.

When we lived in St Cloud, we drove a bit extra to hit up stores that were closer to the Cities.. yes it costs gas $, but I figured if I could coupon and save 75% off or more.. it was worth the trip. Combine a big shopping trip with visiting family or some other adventure.. not a waste at all. :thumbsup2

Shopping list sites..

hmm, you know.. I looked at Raley's online ads and the prices on the loss leaders are actually quite decent. Their everyday item prices (Raley's dailies) suck! Just cherry pick the good deals.

I found a few blogs with coupon matchups, including printables :thumbsup2
