Chatterbox Thread-Cmon in and Jabber! Everyone is Welcome!

Speaking of baby birds, we found a nest under the cover of our propane tank a few weeks ago that had eggs in it. Checked it the other day and the eggs had hatched!

I've been in kind of a funk lately, so I guess it's time to talk. My dad was diagnosed with lung cancer a couple of weeks ago. So I've obviously been out of sorts. It is my biological dad, not my step dad that raised me. I have a relationship with him, but not as much as with my step dad.

That being said, he asked me 3 years ago when I was going thru cancer treatment if there was anything he could do. I told him yes "quit smoking" because you just can't imagine how horrible cancer treatment is. Well guess what? He obviously didn't listen.

I've looked up the type of cancer he has and it is about a 10% 5-year survival rate. Caught early, the survival rate is 30-40%. Not very good odds. He was in the hospital for something else and they caught it by accident. He's had the biopsy and next month goes in for surgery where they will remove the lower left lobe of his lung and 5 ribs. Let's just say, it doesn't look good. I will be praying for a miracle, but I also know the reality of what he is facing.

I'm torn right now between just wanting to bawl, being mad at him for giving himself cancer and being mad at cancer in general. This will be both parents that I've lost to smoking. My mom's aneurysm most likely would not have burst had she not been a smoker. So I have two dumb *$@ parents that decided I need to be an orphan due to their own stupidity! I know, 44 year old orphan sounds stupid, but that's how I feel.

I know that I would be dealing with it better if it were something else, anything else but cancer! Anyway, if I seem out of sorts, you know why. It's just going to take me a while to deal with all of this. Sorry to dump this on all of you, but hey what are friends for if not to tell me to shut up, get over it and go visit my dad!:thumbsup2

There is a lady I work with that just had a double masectomoy (sp) and yet she still smokes and goes to the tanning salon. :scared1: I just don't get it. :sad2:

awww, cute birdies. Good pic Sarah!

Thanks! I told it with my iPhone, I think sometimes those come out better than ones I take with my camera. :rotfl: But I did just but a refurbished Nikon off eBay for $90. Retail value is $259.00. :thumbsup2 Now I have a bunch of Best Buy gift cards from Christmas that I am going to sell on eBay.

I still can't get it to eat though and so today I am going to try and find some type of rescue place. I sure hope it makes it!

Otherwise not much else on for today. Anxious to see survivor tonight and fringe as it is the start of the finale!

That's bout it for me.

BIG ((hugs)) to everyone and take care and have a good day!!

In my town we have a Native Animal Rescue. Maybe you have one too. Try calling the animal shelter, they might be some help. I've saved my share of baby birds to know what you are going through.:goodvibes

Had to share and kind of laugh..

I live next door to a thrift bakery, sells short dated bread (Sara lee) and carries a few oddballs like candy, crackers, pop etc.

I hopped next door to get my caffeine fix and a loaf of bread.
Now during the day, the manager runs the store. She doesn't have very good people skills, she tends to stay in the back moving product even when there are a bunch of people in the store. It's a tiny place, long shelves on all the walls and a set of long shelving down the middle of the store. One of the doors to the back is open, but if someone is near the front of the store.. you can't see what they are doing due to the shelving unit in middle. There are 4 of us in the store, picking and choosing. Manager is in the back, not helping or watching.

Lady walks in fast carrying an umbrella and a big purse, I see her grab a big bag of candy. I hear some rustling and she is struggling a bit, she shoves the bag into her purse. UMMMMMMMMM okay?? I grab my bread and walk around the back side of shelving , kinda poke my head in to make sure the manager knows I'm ready. (she's rearranging bread and muttering at the bread.. hmm.. okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy)

Meanwhile the big purse lady saunters up to the counter, waits for a few seconds and leaves POOF! Now I didn't see, did she toss the candy back in frustration with waiting for the cashier? Or did she make it look like she was waiting and took off with the candy???

Manager slides up to the register and I tell her.. "I'm not sure but I think that lady just stole from your store". Manager glances up, does a head count and describes the lady that left. I agree with her description, she asks what it was (candy) and then just shrugs her shoulders "Oh well" .

Yeah, I bet the owner wouldn't say "oh well"

:rotfl2: She must really not want this job.

Freaking hilarious

Afternoon all.

Bernice I am sorry about all the frustration with the Dialysis! OY! What a mess! I hope you get it all straightened out! Sounds very confusing! And that story about the bread store!! SHEESH! Doesn't surprise me though. I agree, I doubt the owner would be quite so retiscent about theft but what can you do. At least you did your part and said something!

Sara!! That is the same kind of bird that I found!!! I found out today it is a common house finch! I found the wildlife place and it way out there but WELL worth it and I feel SO much better! The little guy was chirping away all the way there and seemed to be doing well so I REALLY hope they can save him/her!! I am so glad I know where this place is now so if this ever happens again I know where to go!!

Now I am just waiting to go pick up the girls from school and we have swim practice tonight which I may or may not go to (Shane may take them). I have been running around like a chicken all day taking care of birdie ;)

I am just SO happy I was able to do something!

Have a great day everyone!

Awww...so cute. DH was upset a few days ago because he was weed eating up on the hill behind our house and went right over the top of a next full of babies. The mother worked diligently that day and appeared to relocate them to underneath a fern a few feet away, but there was one unhatched egg in the nest.

There is a lady I work with that just had a double masectomoy (sp) and yet she still smokes and goes to the tanning salon. :scared1: I just don't get it. :sad2:

Apparently hacking off two appendages isn't enough...she prefers to lose a lung and patches of skin! Or then again maybe she's going thru the "I'm going to die anyway, so do risky things stage".:rotfl2: Yep, it's a stage I went thru, luckily didn't last long for me.:lmao:

:eek:Now that's just crazy stupid! I understand the day old bread stores are probably fairly low profit, just a way to get rid of food that would otherwise be wasted. But still.:sad2:

We're running into some similar problems with our manager's at our hotels. They seem to be giving away discounts to everybody that wants them...we have special VIP rates for business people that stay with us 10 times per year or more. One manager just started giving that rate to any business people that stayed twice in one year...whether they asked for a discount or not!

BTW, thank you everyone for your kind words and support. It has taken me a couple of weeks to kind of digest everything and tell anyone. Every time I think about it I feel like I'm going to throw up.

He was having some blood issues...self medicating with baby aspirin and got his blood too thin (cuz he has a family history of heart problems). So he was in the hospital about 3 weeks ago because he passed out, they ran all kinds of tests and found the cancer on an xray. He had blood transfusions and is now ok. But they can't operate on the cancer until later in June so his blood has a chance to get back to normal.

I do have a relationship with him and also with my stepmother (she's a wonderful lady). So it's not like I'm estranged or anything. He & my mom just divorced with I was 2, so I wasn't raised by him. My sister went to live with him when she was 14, so it's not like he abandoned us or anything. My mom remarried when I was about 4 so my stepdad is the one that I truly consider my "dad". I'm just not close to him like I am my stepdad, if that makes sense.

Anyway, I think he's still in the denial phase. I asked if he was going to quit smoking now (in a joking sort of way) and he told me "well the doctor's don't know for sure if smoking is what caused it". Are you flipping kidding me? You've been a heavy smoker since you were 13, you have lung cancer and you don't know if smoking caused it? So yeah, he's in the denial phase right now. Which makes it a problem, because I'm in the cancer reality phase right now. I'm trying to be positive, but when I talk to him he seems to want me to validate things that I know aren't true. So we're slowly working our way thru this. I think once he has surgery and meets with the oncologist, that's when the full reality of what he is facing will kick in. So for now just taking it one day at a time.

Alison I am sooo sorry! To have gone through what you have gone through and then to have to watch your parents go through it must be gut wrenching. Esp when you KNOW what to expect and they won't listen. ((hugs)) and prayers!!

Well it is yet another Friday. This week seemed to go quickly which I am glad. I am anxious for school to get out. I am looking forward to spending time with my girls and of course our trip to DL!! :)

I am having mixed emotions about my surgery. I want it and hope it takes care of my issues but my last surgery I was SO sick afterward and had such a hard recovery I am admittedly a bit nervous. Esp since it is on a holiday weekend and dh's birthday is the NEXT day as well as so much going on that following week. He has his contractors test again that week, my birthday is that week and the girls have pics for swim team and let's just say that if I trusted dh to take them it would be scary LOL. I could only imagine what they would look like and what I would get. Some things are just better for us mom's to take care of LOL.

SOOOO hopefully what I have heard from my friends is correct and the recovery is not that big of a deal. I feel the most bad though that they had to pick THAT weekend and that I will be out of commission for dh's birthday. He always goes out of his way to do nice things for me for mother's day, our anniversary, my birthday etc and if I don't do anything for him nothing will get done. So I feel bad. Hopefully we can do something maybe the day before or soon thereafter!

Anyway today I am off to work and then tomorrow is time trials. Looking forward to see how well the girls do but NOT looking forward to sitting out in the heat all day. I usually end up with a heat induced migraine!

Anywho I hope everyone has a good day today and an even better weekend! Take care and talk soon! :)

:sad2:

Save me from temper tantrum teenagers- YESH! :scared:

Justin is taking his bike to a marching band overnight at school, he didn't want to take the city bus, he didn't want to ask for a ride.. fine.. whatever!

But please do not grumble at me when you tersely yell good bye and stomp out the door, when I am trying to ask "what is your plan?".

STOP, what are you doing?

He replies with the inpatient teenager sarcastic mode "I already told you"
Umm no , you muttered something and walked away the last time I asked. That wasn't an answer, now I want an answer before you walk out that door.

The teen reply consisted of ARGH, fine! stomp stomp stomp, muttering about taking his "dang bike"...

okay honey, have a good time :wave2: See you when you're in a better mood tomorrow! :p

ahhh teenagers
4 more years.. 4 more years... 4 more years.. okay I can do this! :thumbsup2

We kicked the other out the door too, figured if we are losing one for the night might as well have both gone. SWEET! :thumbsup2

Bow chicka wow wow.... ;)
and I hear from our bedroom, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Well gee, never mind then. HMPH! :snooty:
This is my life.

:lmao:

Arrgghhh...dontcha hate it when you type replies and then they don't post.

Anyway, here's the short version....K. see if you can contact your last surgeon and find out what anesthsia they used and tell them not to use that kind if it made you sick afterwards. It can make a big difference.:thumbsup2 I've had a couple of kinds that made me sick and they don't use those anymore. My last 3 surgeries went well...they used one that made me feel great when I woke up, no nausea, no headaches. :thumbsup2

B. I'm feeling for ya! But I've got news for you...it's really more then 4 years!

Yep, what Alison said on the anesthesia meds. Eloy has them look up in his old charts to see what works the best, first go round he was pukey, after that he has been fine. He wakes up and wants to walk off the table.

I was totally nauseated after the donor surgery, but it was a long one and to be expected.. about 3 hours. And the pain level didn't help.

The previous day surgery I had was a quick one, felt just fine after that.

I've been scratching my head, searching and pondering.. but I think I figured it out..
Looks like E's "deferred" summer payments of his salary will not affect his social security checks, they are counted as already earned. That will be a nice "extra" for two months. :)

He has his .2 position for next year planned out with time slot and curriculum. It is likely he will be working with all new staff, besides the new principal/assistants and teaching coaches. LOTS of teachers leaving the school or moving into different positions due to this restructuring. I feel bad for the kids next year. :sad2:

The state will be getting a bunch of money for each failing school they "restructure", part of the Race for the Top grant. MN is out of the running for the larger grant as the state teachers' union is not supportive of alternative teacher licensure. Our governor is trying to push it through state legislation, bad timing as he is already in hot water on other budget issues.

:rolleyes1 Yeah, eliminating food programs for seniors is not a good political move.. got the courts involved, made him look more of a dumb but. Guess who MN will not support in his bid for presidency? :thumbsup2

Thanks guys. Actually I didn't want to be TMI but I didn't mean nausea although I DID get sick a few times but I am used to that. What I meant by sick was I had an abscess on my colon and had colon surgery and it was outpatient and should have been IN patient because everything got SO swollen up down there that I could NOT urinate afterwards.

They had to cath me just so I could pass urine and THAT was incredibly painful cuz they couldn't even get the catheter in and kept trying to force it and that felt REAL good NOT! Then after I got home I ended up in the ER because of it. I also ended up with Ecoli in my bladder and a massive UTI because of everything and also because of the type surgery I had going no 2 for the longest time was like passing glass shards. I would cry every time and had to immediately get in the tub. I knew that was part of the surgery recovery but didn't realize it was going to be SO painful and take SO long to recover. They told me full recovery would be about 6 weeks but it took me more like 8!

So that was actually what I meant. But yeah I ALWAYS tell them when I have general anesthesia that I need the anti-nausea stuff in my IV but sometimes I puke anyway LOL.

When I got up to use the bathroom after my surgery in August I puked anyway LOL. I was fine after my bladder surgery though. Never even felt sick! So I guess it just depends. My colon surgery was longer though thus requiring more anesthesia I guess.

I am having an ablation vs the full hysto so hopefully it won't be that big of a deal I just hope I don't end up needing the hysto ANYWAY. I already have a myoma and I am afraid it will continue to grow and after going through THIS I will still need one ANYWAY. That is my only concern. Plus I just hope that after all this that it helps my headaches!! That is part of the reason I am doing this! I guess we shall see.

Plus I desperately need to get a mamo done speaking of mastectomies! I haven't had one since I was 39 and I will be 43 next month! I switched insurances 3 times in the last few years and with my other 2 surgeries and stuff I just didn't get around to it. Now they have been harrassing me but I want to get THIS done first and THEN I will schedule it but I will be honest I am always nervous.

Just need to get it over with!

Off to time trials today! Hope everyone has a GREAT day!!

I turn 40 next month, my gift to myself is to contact the SAGE program and get a mammogram and pap done. Thank goodness for these type of programs to help the uninsured.

Oh boy, E and I discussed our summer plans. We both agreed that he doesn't want me working everyday. My sis has set aside PCA hours for me like she did last year, but after I sat and calculated the hours with the summer break months and her child's camp days factored in.... YIKES... I love my sis and her family, but umm not enough to spend my entire summer with them.

I don't mind helping out occasionally, but now that our situation has changed (with E off this summer). I kinda want to stay home and enjoy it.

We also talked about his ongoing hip issues. His neph thinks its time to get the ball rolling on seeing an ortho and getitng the replacements done. And after E described exactly how he feels, I agree it needs to be done soon.

Hmm, we live on the third floor, no elevator. Do you see a problem? :rolleyes1
I know they want ya up walking right away, but stairs?? hmmmm....

hi guys...

so eatmypixiedust thinks im avoiding her. Ironically, whenever she is in the park, i always miss her or something big happens. Sorry Rochelle. :( lol.

Besides that, it sucks that you know something more than other people but you dont want to say it because you just cant. hint hint WoC! hahaha...

in other news, im moving to a house. im excited!!! :P

Oh Albort you little devil!! You are teasing us!! I am going the week after it opens too! I am so nervous about the crowds and whether it is even WORTH trying to attempt seeing it. Right now all the chatter I have heard makes it sound like a nightmare!! I am willing at this point to break down and pay for a special meal or whatever to get reserved sitting or whatever cuz mom can't sit OR stand for long periods and it would be SO worth it but I don't know if they will even have that in place in the beginning???

I guess we will just have to wait and see. If I knew we were going back sometime soon I would just wait but I have NO idea when us as a family are going back. I know mom and I are going next May but I really want the girls to be able to see it so ???

Anyway yesterday was AWESOME!! The girls each had to swim ALL the events except the relays and Katy did AMAZING!! They swam the IM first (Idiv medly relay) which is where the indiv swimmer swims all 4 strokes and Katy dropped her time from last year but still came in 5th in her heat but that is ok. That is a tough one! She came in 14th overall out of 25 girls. Shelby did it for her first time yesterday and did good for her first ever time. She took 2 minutes and something and got I think 21st or 22nd. But for her first time again not too bad.

But the REST of the day was amazing. In the 25 free Katy got a 16 sec and took 1st in her heat and 3rd overall. In backstroke she again took 1st in her heat and 4th overall. In the 50 free she took 1st and 5th overall and her WORST stroke is breast but she STILL got 2nd in her heat but that one she didn't do too well in the overall standings. She was almost last but we know this. That is NOT her stroke but she did her best. But then the BEST one was butterfly. That is her best and her favorite stroke and she not only took 1st in her heat she took 1st overall!!! She has never gotten 1st out of her entire age group. That is huge! I was SO proud of her. Shelby unfortunately didn't have the best day and actually increased most of her times. I am not sure what happened with her but she LOOKED good just was slow for some reason. I am hoping she was just having a bad day. I am SO happy for Katy though!

Anyway today I am going to go get her the next Percy Jackson book as a double reward. I told her I would get it for her for doing well in the meet and also because she reached her reading goal at school.

It was pretty warm out there and I got a bit overheated but otherwise it was an AMAZING day!

Afterwards we went to mom and dad's to celebrate and then came home and just crashed!

Next Saturday is our first meet and I can't WAIT to see how they do!! :)

Have a great Sunday everyone!!
