Ok... I can't stand any more of this Women-playing-beach-volleyball-in-white-bathing-suits-soaked-by-the-rain HATE SPEECH!!!

Come ON!!! It's 2008!!!! If a woman wants to play beach volleyball in a skimpy, semi-opaque, glistening tight outfit, WHO are we to judge her?!?!?

:rolleyes1

Exactly what my DH said :lmao: It was shown in the UK this afternoon and as he has some time off and it was raining he needed no excuse to watch - I only wish I could get off with wearing an outfit like that :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I watch out of sheer jealousy. I wish I had abs and thighs that tight. :sad2:

Whose complaining.:confused3

I am heading to the Olympic committee to lobby that these be standard issue uniform for all women volleyball players and that they install water misting sprinklers overhead during the game.

The water misting sprinklers are to help cool the players off of course.

:lmao:

Yea, but then the guys need to not be wearing any shirts. :thumbsup2 They practically have parkas on compared to the women's teams!:rotfl2: :lmao:

I totally agree. It makes no sense whatsoever... if the women "need" to wear those skimpy outfits, why don't the men?

Sorry i wasn't on guys! I was out socialising with people in the real world! Scary i know! :lmao:

Anything good happen??

How did this conversation get to beach volleyball? I don't care what they wear, as long as team GB get a medal! :goodvibes Go Team GB!!!

Good point! I think the men's beach volleyball team should be shirtless...;)

On another note, if anyone's been watching the men's (regular, not beach) volleyball, I went to college with Lloy Ball! I was on dance team and we danced during all of the basketball games as well as volleyball games! I went to a few parties that he attended, but we don't know each other...lol...I think it's cool just to say that I went to college with an Olympian! :rotfl:

Haven't you been around long enough to know that most threads are never what they seem? They're always hi-jacked! :rotfl2:

Give it another day or so...i'm sure it will circle back to pie and/or cake! ;)

I am waiting for the swimmers to race naked. <sarcasm>

I think that is the next step, isn't it? As for beach volleyball, we have a one year old daughter and four nieces under the age of 11 and it bothers me to think that they will grow up seeing this type of behavior. I don't approve of it.

That's why I like Disney. They try to stay more family friendly than the other entertainment outlets.

Ummm, in the original Olympics, all the participants WERE naked. I have no problem with that. Let's go back to the olden days...when grapes were peeled for the lounging hoi polloi and such.

What behavior are you bothered by? I see no objectionable behavior by the participants in women's volleyball. And those bathing suits must be super-glued to their bodies, because no matter how energetically they jump around, NOTHING moves. NOTHING is revealed.

I see a lot more body parts hanging out in a Disney park than I've seen at the Olympics games.

Mindy,

I don't want to get into an arguement here. The men's volleyball team wears a standard suit with maybe a parka/jacket.

Why do the women need to wear a string bikini <exageratting> to compete?

I have the same complaint of the Chinese diving team. The US diving team wears a standard one piece suit. The Chinese team shows much more skin. Is that helping them dive better? I doubt it.

This is not a question of people having the right to wear what they want, I am trying to emphasize that people should choose to have some modesty.

I swam for many years, and I would gladly wear the suits that they have now versus the speedos that we had to wear in high school for our team.

People can wear whatever they want, but I think that when over one billion people are watching, do you need to be showing everything you have even if it is glued down?

My guess is that the suits the women's volleyball team wears give them the best freedom of movement, and don't seem to move at all on their bodies. The design seems to be a sports-bra type top with a bottom that looks all the world like the runner's bottoms. I know a one-piece suit would seem to restrict flexibility of the torso somewhat (okay, maybe that's only my suit, made with industrial-strength rubber to hold in all the bits).

As far as the swimmers' full body suits, those are definitely designed to increase the swimmer's ability to move through the water without drag. I'm sure if a speedo worked better in that capacity, Michael Phelps would be wearing one.

In either case, I doubt modesty has anything to do with their choices. I can't speak to the thinking of the China team, however.
