Chase Rewards Question

We plan to use our Chase Ultimate Rewards points to reserve our Universal stay for our January trip, however, not all of the points have posted as available. Can we make the reservation in anticipation of receiving the points, which should be within a few weeks. If so, how do we do that?

No, you can't "borrow" points. You can reserve it using "cash plus points" and pay the difference. Or wait to reserve it until your points are available.

AFAIK, you cannot use points that have not dropped into your account yet. They are deducted from your account whenever the redemption/reservation is made. However, you can choose to pay cash for whatever portion of the reservation is not covered by the points. You could then use the points that you get in a couple weeks for a statement credit to cover that charge. The cash rate won't be the same rate as the points rate, so not quite the same as paying completely with points.

Thank you! This is pretty much what I expected.

Thank you. We have a reservation now and are okay with paying in cash if needed, but it’s nice to know we could do a combination of points/cash instead of waiting for all the points to post.

I would book a refundable/cancellable reservation and let it charge your card in $ for the amount that you're short on points. Then once your additional points post to your account, check to see if there is still availability. If there is, cancel the first reservation, wait the few minutes it takes for the points to be refunded, then book again.
JMHO. Too bad we can no longer find Disney hotels using UR. That was sweet while it lasted.
