All this talk of annual fees and I can't find anything that states if Chase will start charging an annual fee.

Anyone know?

I just have my Disney Visa through them- haven't received anything on that particular card.

I don't believe chase is changing their policy. I received some info of changes but nothing that stats annual fee. I did receive a letter from a citi credit card and it specifically stated that they were going to charge an annual, the effective date and the date that I would need to cancel the card to avoid the annual fee. This letter wasn't that little tiny paper with the tiny little font with all the legal mumbo jumbo. It specifically stated that they were going to charge the annual fee so I would think that Chase would send a similar letter if they were going to do it.

I know I pay $65 per year. But I have the Marriott Rewards Premium. For my $65 every year I get a certificate good for a free room night up through a Category 5 hotel (they go up to an 8), credit for 15 nights of stay added to my account (so I automatically become Silver and it is much easier to get to Gold) and five Marriot Rewards points per dollar spent at Marriott (in addition to points for other purchases). So it is well worth the fee for me.

chase has many different offerings, including some with specific programs/rewards ie hotels, airlines, they all vary. the air one is 59/year and worth every penny.
disney rewards is no fee

I have no idea what this means. 15 nights of credit? You mean you get 15 free nights per year or they automatically charge you for 15 nights?

When they send you a notice that they are charging you an annual fee, you will know. Different people, different cards, different tiers of cards, etc...the only way to know is if you actually get a notice of a fee on YOUR cards.

We have 2 CCs, both are Chase, 1 is the Disney Rewards card with no annual fee, the other is Southwest Airlines card with a $59 annual fee.

Neither.

With the Marriott card each stay at a participating hotel earns points. With the Premium card, Cheshire Figment gets points equal to what he would earn after 15 nights of hotel stays, but they are automatically applied to his account, even though he has not stayed at a hotel, or payed for the stay. He just pays the $65 annual fee.

I definitely think some cards can be worth paying an annual fee, others... no way. The thing is, which ones fall in which category are going to be different for different people.

I don't have any cards that charge a yearly fee right now, but I might have to start looking at which one would make the most sense for me, since it seems more and more of them are going to start charging anyway.

We don't have a Chase card, but we got a letter from Citi today as well. $60 annual fee, which they will credit back to us as soon as we charge $2400 on our card. I think not. :rolleyes1 It was very clear, though, with dates and such.

I'm guessing any credit card company who is instituting an annual fee would send something similar.

I just got a letter in the mail from them yesterday. It's one of those generic change in your cardholder agreement letters.

It had a section on Annual Fees that basically said that some cards will have or in the future have an annual fee whether it maintained a balance or not. If you choose not to pay the fee you must cancel your card within the same billing cycle as the fee appears and pay off any balance.

I've kinda come to the point that I will not be keeping my Chase cards. I have my WaMu (oldest account) that they bought with no balance and that I no longer use. I also have a Disney Visa that I got last year for the $100 gift card, only we had to cancel our Janurary trip. We occasionally put something on it then pay it off.

The only card I actually use is my Discover card for travel because of the rewards, and it gets paid off as well. I had thought to use the Disney Visa for this but honestly my Discover has better perks.

I've begun to think I'll keep my Discover and probably my CC from my bank as it's a Visa (some places still don't take Discover). And cancel everything else before this whole annual fee thing even gets started.

PS I got two letters one for each chase card and the annual fee stuff is buried on page 4 I think.

I've thought about applying for this one since you get a free ticket after the first use. Do you find the card is worth it? I just hate paying an annual fee, but earning a free ticket every year or even every other year would make it worthwhile. Is there blackout days?

TIA

Well, this is what I was most concerned about, that somehow it would be small print and I would miss it.

There are no blackout dates...however, it has been harder to book than in the past. In the past when I've earned my free rt flight I could book as long as the plane had seats left. However, the last time I tried to book (about 3 weeks before the flight) the only way I could use my "Rapid Reward" (thats what they call it) is if I used 2 of them. It had a different name, its like a "premium rapid reward" or something like that. So I didn't do it. The next time I needed to book a flight I wanted to try once again to use my free rt flight, searched much earlier and had no problem whatsoever.

If my Disney Visa card decides to start charging an annual fee I will get rid of it, and only keep the SW card. No need to have 2 with annual fees I say. Even with having to book flights as early as possible, I LUV (oh yes I did), SW. :) I like the SW card because the rapid rewards are added up with both card usage, but also with flights, so when you book your flight with your card you get more out of it. You get the points for the dollar amount, but then you also get 1 rapid reward for each flight (so rt you get 2):thumbsup2

I also got the letter from Citi today saying they were going to start charging the $60 also - called them right up to cancel the card!

Remember if any of your cards have reward points, dollars or miles...these must be used before you cancel the card or they will be void and you won't be able to get them if you canceled your card.

No fees from Chase yet but a few changes. Nothing to make my cancel my Disney visa.. However my longest CC with Citibank has decided to charge me a yearly fee.. Figures it's the one I have the best balance transfer. Looks like I need to get rid of that one. I have had that one over 22 years and have NEVER been late.
