Chase closed my (used to be WaMu) credit card....

Fortunately, no harm done as we had another card to use, but it sure was annoying, particularly since the account didn't show any change (and still doesn't, for that matter).

And yes, our trip to Disney was perfect in spite of the the little snafu, although I did sneer at all the Chase card ads and ATM machines LOL.....

I had a situation where I had a typical huge winter heating bill balance when I moved to a new address and for some reason when I sent the Edison my payments, they only applied them to my current balance. I didn't catch it right away, but when I did, I got it cleared up. In the meantime, I was saving cash for a Dominican Rep. trip, and wanted to book it on one card, so I figured that I would pay off my Chase, then request a slight credit line increase to cover the entire amount. (I had this card for 10+ years, never late!) As soon as I asked for the increase, they closed my account stating that I had a small collection from Edison on my report, and so was no longer credit-worthy with them! They sucked-up all my trip money, and I really had to scramble to pay for the trip to avoid certain death by wife!

Chase blows!

But if it were to be closed it would put a big dent in my credit rating as my limit is $23,000.

I agree. And that stinks:headache:

IMO they need to totally revamp how credit scores are handled. You could pay your credit card in FULL every month, have a credit card company close your account for NO reason and WHAM! Your score takes a hit:sick:

How fair is that:confused3

Makes no sense.

We have a Chase Rewards card and just a a revised (and raised) interest rate. I am seriously considering canceling it and just opening a credit card at my credit union. Chase had no reason to up my interest. I have never missed a paymenbt, always pay off the balance, have a high line of credit, don't have any other credit cards, no rfeason at all. I haven't called them yet as the new rates don't start until Sept. but I did pay off the balance that day.
This just happened to us. We just got new cards in the mail saying we had a higher limit. About a week later I get a notice saying our interest rate is now 14 percent. I am not sure what it was before.. I just know hubby sure was mad about it. I didn't know that it doesn't go into effect until September. I guess I should check if mine is the same, and try to pay it off before then.
We have never had a late payment, and don't have any other cards either. I was pretty shocked.

Makes me glad I am using a credit union for my banking needs.

The employees are always helpful and give great customer service. I have an atm card, debit card and credit card, and if I had any issues using them, I've never have had issues getting things fixed up.

Compared to a bank my parents belonged to years ago. Some woman was stealing bank statements out of people's mail boxes then making withdrawals, and very few if any employees ever asked for id and/or bank card thing. My parents got their money restored, the woman got some time in jail, and they withdrew their money, and placed it with a credit union, and have not looked back.

Same here, just different bank.
My Airmiles card recently switched from one company to Bank of America.
They told me I had to switch from a visa to a mastercard (not a problem).
I've been with the original company for over 8 years.
So, I get the new card in the mail, and it sat on my desk for a few days, and then I started getting calls from Bank of America asking me to please activate the card. So, I did and started using it that weekend.

2 days later I needed gas in my car, and my new card was refused. :confused3

I called the new company and they said "you don't have credit with us yet".

WHAT? I have a $10,000 availability, and only owe $2000. I pay a few hundred each month. Well, that credit was from the old company, and I haven't earned any credit with the new company yet.

Then WHY GIVE ME A CREDIT CARD??? If I wasn't good enough to not have credit, then just close my account.

I really hate Chase..I also have a WaMu that changed, and I guess it will end up closed since I rarely use it. Anyway..have wanted to get a Disney Rewards card but sure wish Disney went through a different company...

We recently had a bad experience with Chase as well. We were adding on to our DVC and decided to put the deposit on our Disney Visa for the 0% financing and reward points. We made the payment to Chase and by the time our sales rep charged the account for the deposit, Chase had dropped out credit limit in half -- to our balance so no credit available! :headache: deposit declined! We had never been late or missed a payment! So they had our deposit $$ as payment and we had to come up with another 1500 or loose our DVC add on. DH was furious and spent hours on the phone with multiple unhelpful and uncaring "customer service reps". At the end of it all they gave us 100 reward point for our troubles. Big deal! We're going to pay off and close that account asap. :thumbsup2

We use a local credit union, too and they've been great. :thumbsup2 We have our mortgage, checking/savings, credit card and our new car loan with them.

After having experience with a credit union, I'd never go with a national bank again. :)

I just found out today that they closed one of mine that they bought out a few months ago from Providian!

No notice, nothing...they had sent me a replacement card about a week ago, so I went on to activate it. I have been paying it off.

What kills me is this account has been open since 2000 with not one late payment, over credit limit etc etc. Chase buys it and decides to close it. They couldn't tell me over the phone why but said they issued a letter on 7/7, well it's 7/18 and i haven't gotten it. They will "try" to reissue. I told her don't bother as I will have this all paid off in next month or 2.

I said that they are going to do major harm to my credit report due to closing an account that was paid perfectly for over 9 years and is the longest on there...you know what she said, "I understand, but we do periodically review accounts and could reopen it at some point" UGH....can you tell I just got off with them!

I do have another chase card, disney visa that I use and pay off..just use for the points. This providian is one that has carried a balance that I have just paid off as I could.

so it appears 7/7 was their busy day to "review" and close their old wamu accounts.

Chase...........bad news. Can you imagine what the customer service agents must hear all day long? I am sure glad I don't work for Chase, I would surely be looking for a new job!! I couldn't handle the stress of people yelling at me all day long!!

You got that right. I give them credit, I really do.

The last time I went into my bank, which was once a WaMu location, now Chase - I asked the girl (who I remember having been there with WaMu) how working for Chase was - because I hated them as a bank. ;)

She said nothing had really changed yet, as far as that goes, but we started talking about Credit Cards and Chase (she has no intentions to remain with the company and is looking for another job)

When the first 'wave' of changes came about, they got an email stating they were making changes: Limit Decreases, Percentage Increases & Cards being closed altogether. It said to expect lots of angry customers.

It had handy tips on standard answers for angry customers. She seemed pretty disgusted with it. It was along the lines of "If the customer says this, you say this". She said it was like an acting script, that they needed to memorize for "angry customers" instead of focusing on Customer Services and actually making them happy. :sad2:

Just got a letter from chase today- they moved our due date by 5 days later.. :confused3 weird. I will still be paying it on the same date since I have automatic bill pay through our bank.

Just curious...

For those of you who have Chase cards that were formally WaMu cards, does it show the account as being closed (or no credit available) if you look at your account online?

My DH and I both have Chase cards, so I'm really worried about them closing our accounts. We never use them, but I still don't want the ding of a closed account on our credit reports.

Thanks!

I logged onto WaMu.com - and it redirects me to Chase online, now.

On that page - I can see my 2 checking accounts, my savings accounts, and my Chase CC accounts. On *that* page - I saw it was closed.

When I clicked the ' Access credit card info at Chase Online' - next to where the cards are shown, and it's the CC site, I can see my balance, payments made - all that stuff, but you know what I *can not* see? That it had been closed. :confused3

In fact, I'm pretty sure it shows available credit. Let me go look.

Yes - it still shows me having available credit. :sad2: :confused3

It says nothing on that site, at all, about it being closed.

Mine does not look any different unless I'm missing something. It still shows x as available credit, it looks just like the page for my disney visa. which it really stinks chase bought out the disney visas, but I really do use that card for the rewards. will probably keep that one until they decide to close it on me.

For those concerned about banks closing accounts, it looks alot better on your report if you close it vice them closing it.

When a bank closes your account, your report will read "closed by credit grantor" which will prompt all the others reviewing your account to think you are less creditworthy.

I had a Syms card that I did not use and did not carry a balance. They closed my account and listed it as such which is a double wammy!:headache:

I am so sick of what these credit card companies are doing to us...the people who have been paying on time and paying more than minimums! The whole bill Congress just passed didn't do anyone any good, it gives those companies a whole year to stick it to all of us....I have excellent credit and yet one after another of my cc companies has been sending out letters raising the interest rates and lowering the credit limit.....My Discover card lowered my limit in March so I was doubling up on my payments, then in May they lowered my limit again...to within $100.00 of where my balance was at that point....does that mean that as I continue to pay they will continue to lower until it is closed completely! Even though I have never been a deadbeat....I know alot of people that are in this same boat (although I believe we will need a ship soon) that are considering not paying at all anymore and some are even declaring bankruptcy! I can understand them wanting to rid themselves of the deadbeats but why do the good people need to be made to feel like they are deadbeats.....I was scared to death that while on vacation I would find that my other cards had lowered their limits and I wouldn't have had the cash to pay for my hotels and rental car! That could have been a disaster!
Chase is the first on my list after Discover to be dumped!

Yes they will:sad2: It is called "balance chasing" and the credit card companies do it to people with good credit. It then ruins the credit score (by decreasing the funds avail.) of a person who truly cares. My heart breaks for those of you who pay their bills on time each and every mont, yet are being treated like this

It is disgusting:sick:
