In court papers filed Friday, Denise Richards claims that her estranged husband, Charlie Sheen, threatened to kill her.

"I am filing now because I can no longer accept (Sheen's) abusive and threatening manner and must stop him from the cycle of his abuse toward me and our children and his continued threats of violence and statements that he is going to kill me," Richards, 35, says in papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.

In her 17-page filing, Richards says that Sheen's gambling, pill-popping and violent mood swings led to their initial separation last year.

Among her allegations: That Sheen abused prescription drugs after the 2004 birth of their first daughter, Sam, and told Richards "I 'better not tell anybody about his using these drugs and better keep it to myself.' I understood by these statements that (he) would physically harm me and our baby."

Richards also claims that, on the way to the hospital for the birth of their daughter Lola last year, Sheen placed a gambling bet by phone, and was checking his pager for the results as she was wheeled into surgery for her C-section.

Things turned violent on Dec. 27, 2005, according to the papers, when Sheen allegedly hit Richards's wrist and shoved her in the stomach after she confronted him about pornography Web sites featuring "very young girls" that he'd been visiting. She claims Sheen told her that "if I revealed anything about his lifestyle, 'You won't lay your head down at night.' I understood this to mean that he would kill me."

Several days later, she claims Sheen pushed her over while she was holding Lola and "said to me that he was going to have me killed."

In his own filing, Sheen, 40, denies claims that he threatened and hit Richards on Dec. 27 and 30, saying, "I deny having engaged in any such conduct."

In a statement issued by Richards's rep on Friday, the actress said, "I am disappointed that the situation has deteriorated to the point that it has become necessary to seek the assistance of the court. However, my primary concern is and always has been the welfare of the children and this action today was taken to ensure their safety as well as mine."

Sheen issued a statement of his own on Friday, calling Richards's allegations "a most obvious immature and transparent smear campaign designed to hurt, embarrass and ultimately extort me."

The statement continues, "I deeply regret (that) her response to my request for the court to decide what’s best for our children has taken the form of baseless allegations that I deny. For the sake of my children, I am electing not to reciprocate in kind.”

Sad no matter who is telling the truth. If he is lying, very scary. If she is lying, very sad.

In the end, the kids lose when their parents are in a bitter fight.

I think it's so sad ay of these stars have to go through a divorce under the public microscope. Sure, you can say, "They made that decision." But did they? Really? To have paparazzi stalk them and all their private affairs to become tabloid foder?

Oh my God. I just read her statement. Wow, if that is true, he is one sick man. I would say she's telling the truth. Her accusations about the pornographic websites and emails can be proven. She has proof from the pediatrician as well for the incident in which he flipped out about the vaccinations. If he really had something to do with that prostitute's death, oh my. She must be absolutely terrified.

I don't know who to believe, she could be using his past to get full custody of the children, who knows, there's always two sides to every story and then there is the truth, alot of her story sounds unbelieveable, at least to me it does, if it is that bad there is no way I would let my children go with him.

I tend to believe the accusations mainly because he was one of Heidi Fleiss's biggest clients. Leopards rarely change their spots and this man has admitted to being addicted to hookers and porn in the past. Sad story regardless of who is telling the truth.

Sheen Ordered to Stay Away From Richards

A judge issued a temporary restraining order Friday requiring Charlie Sheen to stay away from his estranged wife, Denise Richards.

Sheen was ordered to stay at least 300 feet from Richards, her home, her car and their two young daughters except during supervised visits with the children, according to court documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.

The judge granted Sheen one-day-per-week visits with 2-year-old Sam and 10-month-old Lola and scheduled another hearing for May 12.

The court papers include a 17-page declaration by Richards alleging that Sheen pushed her, shoved her and made threats against her and her parents. They also include transcriptions of telephone messages Richards said were left by Sheen in April 2005.

Sheen denied the allegations and the judge granted his request that he and Richards be allowed to tape record telephone conversations with each other. In a declaration signed Thursday, he said he and Richards had agreed to undergo counseling to "address parenting issues and to establish a mutually acceptable custody schedule," but that Richards stopped participating after two sessions.

He also alleged that he had been seeking overnight visits with the children but that last week, Richards "abruptly refused" to allow him any contact with them.

"I deeply regret her response to my request for the court to decide what's best for our children has taken the form of baseless allegations that I deny," the 40-year-old actor said in a statement.

A call to Richards' spokeswoman was not immediately returned Friday.

Richards filed for divorce in March after three years of marriage. The relationship appeared to dissolve in the public eye just months before the 35-year-old actress gave birth to the couple's second child in June.

Then, after the second birth, the couple appeared to be on the road to reconciliation. In November, Sheen flashed his wedding ring on CBS' "Late Late Show," telling host Craig Ferguson "things are really good."

Richards and Sheen met while shooting the independent film "Good Advice" in 2000 and appeared in 2003's "Scary Movie 3."

Sheen stars in the CBS sitcom "Two and a Half Men." His screen credits include "Platoon," "Wall Street" and the "Hot Shots!" movies.

Richards also appeared in the James Bond movie "The World Is Not Enough," "Wild Things" and "Starship Troopers."

Wow, this is sad. I do know that she has stayed close with Martin Sheen, Charlie's father. Which is interesting because as Charlie's parent, I can't imagine him not having a problem with Denise completely lying (if, in fact, she were)

Wow. I'm leaning towards her as well, considering his history and all. That's just so sad for the kids and if she is, in fact, telling the truth then her too. I know it's the "job" but I would hate my problems aired to the world like that.

The bigger question is why, why, why did she have not ONE but TWO children with him? Stupid!

He assaulted a past girlfriend (at least one), o.d.'d, spent 50k on Heidi Fleiss's hookers, dated porn stars, was arrested-- all before he had a relationship with Denise Richards. IMO, she signed up for it, and she shouldn't be complaining about it or compensated for it. I bet she's upset about the results of the pre-nup and maybe a lack of child support. She's no innocent to the world of soft porn, anyway.

He says the courts should decide about the kids' visitation and custody, and it sounds like supervised visitation is the way to go for now.

I remember reading an article shortly after they were together in which Denise said that she was fine with Charlie's background because the bad behavior was all behind him and he was now a different man. At the time, I thought she must be really naive or so crazy in love not to realize that a man with that much baggage just doesn't change overnight. I also wondered why she was so quick to have one baby with him, let alone two.

You have to look at both sides I used to know somone who went through a bad divorce (no kids) she claimed that he pushed her away from him with a kitchen chair, which he did, what she didn't say was the fact that she had a very large carving knife in her hand which he thought was going to end up in him.
